Just had a look at the website, looks nice but there ferry deals dont look that good, we are going to Lower Hyde, Park Resorts site near Shanklin on 7th July and its only cost us £83 for the 7 nights holiday and £69 for the Ferry. You will have to post a review when you get back and let us know what it was like. Happy Hols.
Going to the Isle of Wight on the 1st July for the 5 day special. Staying at The Orchards. Stayed last year but going to have a look at Whitefield Forest and there is a site at Freshwater called Heathfield Camping & Touring. It only cost £130 for the site and return ferry for the car & caravan

Yes it is good and it has great views of the countryside as well. The swimming pools are very good. The one inside is a bit small and you have to pay £5.00 to use it, but if the weather is good as it was last year then the outside one is as good. Pitched on grass last year and the pitch was on a slope, so gone for a hardstanding pitch this time. Went to have a look at Southlands Camping last year which was nice but you don't get the views as hedges are everywhere and you are all put ito sections.
The Orchards have a good shop and take away service which is quite reasonable.
There are some great places to visit on the Isle of Wight as well.
Looking forwards to going. Look out for a Black Freelander.
hi all, been to IOW several times not always camping though havent heard of Orchards what part of island is it please. Also we save our Tesco vouchers for the ferry used £22 worth of vouchers this year for my £85 ticket with Wight Link. Going in Sept not yet booked.
hi pauline, we are also booked to go the the whitefield forest, 27 july for 7 nights, we went past there last year and saw the signs advertising it. seems to be in a good location, it sounfds nice, should be as they are experienced people who own it, they used to run the site at adgestone. hopefully see u there
We're booked to go there on the 2nd August and looking forward to our first camping holiday. I was going to ask the same question - anyone been yet? Their website doesn't have any photos and neither does their brochure which came with the booking form; at least, not of the actual site. Still, we're going for it as we don't fancy a busy place with lots of dogs / children / camp staff dressed up as furry bunnies (despite us having two kids of our own), and it was pretty reasonable cost-wise (we booked the ferry ourselves - £100 for God's sake, but that is just before Cowes Week). So if you see a big Vango tent next to a Ford S-Max with a grumpy 43 year old sitting next to it, do say hello!
:)
Oh, and I'm new on this forum, so "Hi there everyone!".

We went over to the island a few weeks ago and stayed a friends chalet. We actually went to take a look at this site and its just our thing. Its surrounded by woods, the toilets and showers etc are all new and there seem to be plenty of them. The pitches are large and each one has woods right behind, so would think there is access.
The only downside is there is a sawmill next door, but it only worked a few days a week and didnt start too early and the road is busy, so would suggest a pitch nearer the back of the site.
We have cheap use of the chalet whenever we want, so wouldnt camp on the Island at the present time, but if we did, we would certainly give this site a go.
This campsite is set in a woodland area on the road between Ryde and Brading, and is newly opened as at the time of this review (Aug 2007).
The toilet / shower blocks were absolutely spotless, and very handsomely built to fit their surroundings. Despite the site being full I never had to queue for a shower and there was always hot water.
The owners have clearly made a great effort to lay out the site in a pleasing way. All the pitches are level (this has been achieved by terracing where necessary) and are an ample size. I didn't measure our pitch but we had enough space for a six man tent (Vango Colorado 600 DLX), a utility tent and the car, with spare for the picnic table, chairs and other camping kit. I saw a good few larger tents on the pitches which fitted easily.
The site has a very relaxed feeling to it, which is helped no end by the pleasant and welcoming attitude of the owners. There are several areas of woodland in the middle of the site which children can safely explore, and we discovered one play area which had clearly been constructed using timber from the cleared out areas. This wasn't (as far as I could tell) signposted, so it really was a discovery. There are climbing frames, monkey bars and a pair of swings made from rope and a tyre hung off a pair of tall trees. These are basic, but the kids had a wild time on them. The play area is a work in progress, but the kids loved it. Having trees dotted around the site is really useful in the Summer when it's hot, as there is always some shade to be had, but obviously some pitches have more shade than others.
The only downside is the road noise which gets worse at rush hour times, but it was never overly intrusive. There is also a speedway track nearby which holds events (which can be heard) two nights a week, but they end at 10:00pm, so it's not such a bother.
This was our first camping experience so we did not know what to expect, but staying at Whitefield Forest was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it. It is well located for Shanklin, St Helens and Sandown on the right hand side of the island, so a good choice if you are looking to spend lots of time on the beach.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
