We are weekend campers (not by choice but by job limitations!) lots of sites seem to only take week long bookings in the summer holidays.  Do you think it would be worth us going to cornwall or north devon and just trying our luck, has anyone ever just gone and found a site that could take them without booking in August?

I wouldnt just turn up without booking a pitch during the school holidays, Everywhere is busy & You could end up disapointed after a long drive, I would at least phone before leaving home.

I'm sure when heading somewhere with so many camps you would find at least one with a vacany. I would make a list with names and numbers and do my phoning around on route whilst OH drive's

A lot of places won't know until the day if someone hasn't turned up and claimed there pitch.
