just a quick post before i visit holmsley next week, just wondered if anyone had any tips for this site and the new forest in general. such as:

site layout, wheres the best place to pitch on this site?

any villages/pubs/shops in walking distance? if not, cycling or short drive?

best places to visit in the area - cycling distance perhaps?

would really appreciate some tips before we go away thanks guys

Never stayed on Holmsley. To see the best of the forest get away from the main areas. I don't cycle so not sure of the cycle routes but as there are some great walk books my fav being Walk The New Forest by Jill Brown and David Skelhon, I am sure there will be something with good cycle routes.  A really nice pub is at Sway not to far from Holmsley called the Hare and Hounds.  If you like wildlife try going for a walk or ride at dusk. Both Ornamental Drives are good for deer and owls.  Have a great time.
