Hi,

We are hoping to go to Northern Ireland next month and need a decent site near Portaferry in County Down.  Any ideas would be very welcome.

Thanks

Hi there are a few campsites in the area. Probably a few miles from poraferry. You will have to look them up for your self as i am not great on the computer to do links. Ballyhalbert caravan park is probably the closest. Then Ballywalter. There are a few in Milisle. There might also be one in Donaghadee. Sorry I couldnt be of more help. All these places are not that far away from Portaferry. Have a safe trip and enjoy yourselves in Gods own country.

Ali visit www.discovernorthernireland.com for a list of campsites near Portaferry.

The nearest to Portaferry would prob be Delamont Country park, I believe it is associated to the caravan club, so if your a member you may get discount. Hope the weather gets better for your trip, regards B.C.

There's a site in portaferry behind the Aquarium, Last time i was down there it looked a bit iffy, the access road for it is a bit tight and i've heard rumours of dogging in the car park attached to it. Delamont is nearby but you have to cross strangford lough by the ferry (£5.50 per car) and drive for about 15-20 minutes iirc from delamont to strangford. Delamont is quite dear although a nice site. Kirkistown Caravan site is just round the ards peninsula from portaferry, it's quiet and clean with excellent showers although nothing for kids to do. It's quite rocky under the top soil so pegging out for an awning/tent is a bit of a nightmare. Slightly further away is Sandycove which is a lovely site with a great beach and decent play area for the kids. Pitches are good only thing letting it down is the toilets could do with being updated.
