We would like to see the lights switched on this year, so can anyone reccomend a family campsite near blackpool. We don't need swimming pools or any thing like that just a toilet block. Thanks

If you are a member of the caravan club or caravan and camping club they have certified locations/sites in and around Blackpool. The large illuminations are on the prom from North Shore to Bispham, so Fleetwood may be good for you to stay,
If you are thinking of seing the lights by tram it is a good idea to get on the tram at Fleetwood or Squires gate - South shore end as the trams get packed as they travel closer towards the main illuminations. Also if travelling by car to get to the illuminations but walking around Bispham/North shore illuminations avoid the prom and major roads as you can queue forever, the roads parallel to the prom are usually quiet. It is difficult to get really lost. If you get confused head for Pleasure beach (South) Blackpool Tower (Central) or the Norbreck castle hotel North Blackpool/Cleveleys and you are back on the prom.
hope you enjoy your visit

I would recommend Knepps Farm, in Thornton. It's located in a nice semi-rural area near the River Wyre. There are also some nice walks around there, and it's within walking distance a nice local pub - the Bay Horse. If you drive to Cleveleys or Bispham (only about 1-2 miles away), it may be easier to get a tram right through the lights, or if you park at Bispham you could easliy walk the best bits, and get a chippy tea at the same time.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
