I read that cars can't be kept on the camping field but must be kept in the pub car park. Are they allowed onto the field though for loading and offloading as I can't carry my tent very far!

You definitely cannot get cars onto the camping field, but the field is small and only gently sloping so dragging the tent across the grass could be an option. See this Google Maps satellite image.
It is a lovely site, my bike club has an annual meet there every September, and the pub has great food. I was in there for lunch with my family just last week.
