I phoned to book a pitch on a site recently in the Top 100 Caravan Parks in the Practical Caravan magaazine. We were unable to get a hardstanding pitch, but was offered a grass one. It wasn't cheap, and good job we didn't have kids, pets, awning etc or it would have been even dearer.
We went this weekend, we used it as a base as we had friends to visit nearby, and went out and about, but we were put on the rally field. It was quite boggy, we pitched on the edge (we have a reputation for getting stuck in the mud, and don't have a 4x4), I hadn't expected to pay top money to be on the rally field, I expected a grass pitch on the main site.
Was I expecting too much?
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
I think site owners are obviously trying to make a large profit over the busy summer time. There must be a better way of working out the charges. How about making the basic pitch fee standard, instead of £10 for these dates and £20 for this date working out what the rental revenue for the season is and divide by the number of days in the season giving you the average price per pitch (don't get hung on the maths!)
It also annoys me that you have a pitch price, then ehu, then price per person, additional costs for pup tents, gazebos, awnings.
My favourite place this year for August Bank Holiday would have cost me £42 per night, which works out expensive for a 8 night stay.
We were away last week and - due to someones elses misfortune who I am really sorry for - we managed to get a hard standing pitch, which really was a god send. There are sites out there who are so helpful and friendly and make an honest buck with decent facilities.
I don't think so Rizzo - I wouldn't have been too happy to get there and find myself on a rally field. If you're paying main site prices I would expect to be pitched on the main site.
A tad greedy I would say.

Rizz, i reckon a rip off has occurred, as gailk sez if you pay main site prices, you expect to be on the bl..dy site, did their brochure/advert mention pitching areas ? this may be one site you may not be going to again regards S/C
I wouldn't be happy either Chris, if I was put on the rally field I'd expect to pay rally prices, where were you? Did you complain to the management at the time?
