Well, we've bought a tent, practiced putting it up and got the dog booked into the kennels now we just need a site to go to...

We only want to go for one night for our first attempt at camping but am finding it difficult to find a site that will let you pre-book. So I was wondering how you go about it. We've emailed a few sites and most replys have been the same, along the lines that they wont let you book for just one night.

Do you ring round the day you go?

Do you just turn up and see if they have spaces?

We're wanting to go near Scarborough if anyone knows any specific sites that will let us book. Been looking through the site reviews and have some ideas.

I think you should have a look at the sites you fancy and ring them direct.  I would imagine most sites can fit a tent for 1 night - keep ringing.

We booked a site for 1 night recently. Some folk do just turn up at sites - but if its your first time might be nice to know where your going etc.

The camp site search on here is very good give it a try. Also people leave reviews about the site so you can get a good feel for what its like.

Hope your trip is a good one !! I am sure you will love it and soon be away for long weekends.

Try small farm type sites with just a few pitches, tend to be quieter and not concerned that you're only there for one night, probably no facilities though so take your bucket!

It may be that because it is the height of the hol season most sites will only allow a minimum stay of a few nights. So your best bet is probably to do as oldham suggests and ring on the morning as they should know if they have space.

Thought this would be the case, but thought I'd ask you experts out there.

We've found four that are reasonably close to each other so maybe one of them will have a pitch on friday for us.

Fingers crossed!

I've just been away for 1 night (last night) and booked the day before. They were quite happy to take my booking

Spent a good few hours ringing round today to try and find a site near Scarborough that would take us for just one night and finally found one.

We're off for our first go at camping in a tent tomorrow to the Vale of Pickering site which has some good write ups on here. Fingers crossed it'll all go well, everyones looking forward to it. Just got to get the little one off to sleep tonight!!
