I imagine that lots of families with younger children go camping, I was reading a thread earlier that touched on it but never got the sort of answer I wanted. Does any one have recomendations for their top sites to take young children, mine are all under 6 years old.

Hi Deltaon, i am going away with my three year old daughter in two weeks time i have booked a haven camping holiday at golden sands near skegness there is alot of sites scattered around the country with indoor/ outdoor pools, several play areas, daytime/ night time entertainment, funwork passes and we can visit the surrounding area also. I think the prices are quite high so i have just booked a late deal, when i get back we will post and tell you all about it sure my daughter will love it, just hope the weather is fine!
I have two whow are now six and nine - the nine year old being very young (and small for his age). We've been camping for about 4 years now. I have taken them to a variety of sites - from one with nothing on to the all singing all dancing sites, and everytime they have had a great time. I will admit that a play area is a big bonus, as it means that they get the chance to play with lots of other kids. The weather was not the best - yet at every opportunity they were in the play area having a great time. Most evening they were out until after nine. Haven type sites also have the plus points - kids shows, swimming pools etc provide on site entertainment, and if your kids are still young enough to enjoy things like the Bradley Bear show - well it's their holiday as well. I know that there are some people who will knock this type of site - but you can choose which parts of the entertainment you use. I've used them as a base going out several days, and kids shows/swimming pools a couple of days. Taken the kids to the kid's show in the evening, and then left with two tired kids, who are ready for bed, before the evening show starts. I always take things for them to do - such as colouring/dough - just buy some cheap stuff that is kept for camping, and doesn't matter if it gets spoiled or all used on one trip. Helps keep them happy when we are in the tent or I just want to chill out by the tent. One thing is to relax things like bedtime rules - if they hear other kids playing and you are trying to get them into bed at 7,they aren't going to be too happy. In the past mine have come in, and fallen asleep fully clothed, and rather grubby.
For my main holiday, I also look at what is in the area that is suitable for youngsters. Beautiful county walks are great - but there are only so many of them that a little one will want to do. Something like a ride on a steam train is always a winner with my two.
After a few trips out you will probably find your own level of what you are looking for - so go on - get out and enjoy camping
Agree with above post, take some things to keep them busy, colouring and puzzles are my 3 year old's favourites! Plenty of clothes, and don't worry if they skip the shower a few nights!
Enjoy

Agree with the above - we have been taking our princess since she was a year old and she was still on oxygen! She loves camping and as long as you are organised with plenty to entertain them...things will be great no matter where you are! Some sites have camping pitches right next to the playpark so you would be able to keep an aye on them whilst sitting at your tent..others are further away so you would need to go with them...just ask when you book..usually most sites are geared up to young families...enjoy your camping!!
Forest Glade, COllumpton, Devon was a nice place for young children. They have a playground and pool, whilst still being a relativly small and quiet site. While the pitches are quite close together with EHU, they have plenty of room to play out front, and with marked roads, know where not to play.
Well we went away to golden sands quite busy, weather was great, lovely ppl around us, toilet blocks clean, plenty of space. The only problem i would have to say is a good 15 mins walk to the main site which seemed forever ha and my lil princess wanted everything so it was very expensive! But there was loads to do for her and she thoroughly enjoyed it shame we had to come home a night before as i had some bad luck the main door entrance to the tent broke, i lost my purse with bank card and money in then only to find it when i got back :-( apart from that i think mablethorpe is a lovely place!

We always loved Sandy Balls in Fordingbridge, Hampshire brilliant when ours were small. They have a soft play area, very well stocked supermarket and cdraft activities, toddler swim time in the pool and baby seats on the bikes you can hire. The site has got more comercial as time has gone on but if you want somewhere where you children will have something to do even if it rains sandy balls is really worth a visit.
this site is brilliant, your in the middle of the woods, with a very nice park, little animal farm loads of nature walks, crazy golf a sand pit a quite a bit more. there's also a very big fishing lake and you walk in the deer park to. i have to say i have taken both my daughters for the last couple of years, they are now 3 and 6 and they both absolutly loved it.
We have recently been to Sacrewell Farm Park, near Peterborough. (just of A1). Entry to farm included in pitching fee.
Children loved it. Farm with plenty of animals, playground, indoor play area with lots of pedal tractors etc, tractor rides, watermill, walks, horses, and lots of space to run about in and play. Also 5 mins from the Neane Valley Railway.

Depends what you want- perfect facilities and entertainment? or lts of wild places for them to run around? Can't help you with the first, but if you want space, freedom and great fun:
FForest Field , Bluith Wells, Wales
Llyn Gwynant, Snowdonia, Wales
Castlerigg Hall, Keswick
There are loads of great campsites like this! Avoid the aforementioned "family" sites and get your kids into some wild places!
I have 2 kids one 2 the other being 9.Sites like haven, park resorts etc where they have The tiger club or sparky krew club, which will keep them occupied.
Waterside at St Lawrence bay near Maldon is good for the kids having a small indoor swimming pool and entertainment. Plus in Maldon there is the Promenade Park which is free and has a adventure playground and a water park.Plus walks along the river.
But seriously all Park resorts and haven are good apart from the Park resorts site on the Isle of Sheppey which I thought was Dire!
God luck
