Some campsites have got ridiculously expensive. I've been searching for Easter, and some were wanting almost £50+ a night! Now, it's just me & hubby, 2 dogs in a T5 campervan + an awning. We don't have a huge caravan with a full size awning using multiple electrical appliances and 2 or 3 children which would probably then make it better value.
I want a quietish site, clean functional washblocks and EHU. A small onsite shop is a bonus, as is a cafe or takeaway onsite or nearby. But ideally, I don't want to pay much more than £30 a night.
I really do think you need to shop around these days and re-evaluate what you really need!

A unit is a unit, whether it is motorhome, a campervan, a big caravan or a small caravan. An awning is an awning no matter if it is tiny or "full size". EHU is EHU (unless you are metered). 2 adults are 2 adults, etc, etc. Perhaps you could search for sites that don't charge extra for dogs and awnings ? Or maybe leave the awning at home, especially in April ? Anyhow, if you don't want to pay more than 30 pn .... don't !
We take our awning to give us the extra space, somewhere to cook/eat and to dry off wet dogs and take off wet clothing before going into the camper. Also, our dogs aren't small dogs!
There are sites out there that don't charge extra for awnings and/or dogs. If the site is already, imo reasonably priced, I don't object to a small additional cost for the dogs if they have facilities for them i.e. dog walk/field, poop bins or even a dog wash which some sites have these days.
But, I do object to those that are maybe charging an extra £3 or £4 a night per dog and then stating "NO DOGS TO BE EXERCISED ON SITE". We do understand some sites don't have capacity to cater for dogs so then please don't charge us! We are responsible and will walk them offsite but they need to get from our pitch to the site entrance first.

People that pay ridiculous prices for sites are part of the problem.
Yes I'm inclined to agree, but recently there has been a big influx into camping and caravanning and many of those who are new to it have no idea what is "normal". If they look up sites, find one they like, and book in, that is what they will think the normal price is. If that happens to be £40+ a night..........
Personally I won't pay more than around £25 a night all-in, but then all we want is a quiet site, toilets & showers, and EHU. Anything else is a bonus, but it has to be included in the overall cost.
Everything has gone up! What people are prepared to pay is totally up to them it’s their money their choice.
It’s okay to spend say 50 k on a caravan or 100 k on a motorhome but not £40 a night on a pitch, you make your choices and pay what you want.

50k on a caravan or 100k on a motorhome is just pie in the sky to me. Our caravan cost us £1,100 six years ago and it's still going strong at 32 years old. It does us just fine and I wouldn't mind betting we get just as much pleasure from it as we would would from the latest state-of-the-art one straight from the showroom. Why people spend that sort of money beats me, but then I agree, it's their money and their choice.
I'm not sure I'd spend that sort of money though, even if I had it, which I don't. I certainly wouldn't get in debt over it. My caravans, like my cars, I buy outright for cash.
I won't pay £40 a night to rent a patch of grass for a night either.

The point I’m making is what suits me or you doesn’t suit everyone.
I took two of my grandsons to the cinema as a treat, it was an eye watering £50 with tickets and a drink and popcorn, crazy money but that’s what it costs if you want to do it.
If you don’t want to rent a patch of grass for £40 a night that’s fine, but don’t knock the ones that do.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
