I have just returned from Brean Sands and I visited a few local towns including Burnham on Sea, All the beaches along that coast have warnings for mud/sinking sand and therefore make them unsuitable for kids to paddle in the sea.
The beach itself at Brean I found quite nice and there is plenty of sand between you and the sea, but if its the sea you want you may want to consider another location.
we went brean sand a few weeks ago and if you want to go in the sea then its not the place for you. we had a lovely stay at warren farm and drove on the beach everyday for a couple of hours to play in the sand but its very windy
