I have had a good search but I cant find much as everthing seems to be focused on caravans rather than good old fashioned tents. I have nothing against caravans but I dont actually have one.
As some of you may have read I am trying to persuade my hubby tocome camping again and struggling somewhat. I have decided as the weather is set to be ok this weekend I want to try and badger him into coming.
We wont be able to pick up our 4 year old till 3.30pm on Friday and will have to have him back for his friends birthday party (yawn) to prevent a parental falling out by 3pm on Sunday. This means that I need somewhere as local as possible.
My only criteria are that it is as near as possible, suitable for young family, it would be nice if there was a play area or something else do do like animals/ducks etc. but nearby parks would be fine and if there was a family friendly pub very nearby that may well swing the balance for hubby (I dont even drink)1 - the things we have to do.
I know it sounds awful but if no pets were allowed - it would be perfect as I am severely allergic dogs and I dont like having to spend my time dodging them. Its a shame as I like them but it cant be helped.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
I am sorry - but I am having one of those days. I am in North Manchester so anywhere in Greater Mancehster, South Lancashire, parts of merseyside, possible eastern edge of north wales, top of cheshire etc. no more than an hours drive.

Derbyshire is too far because of the direction of the traffic I'm afraid - past Glossop at that time and its gridlock. Its the same problem with West Yorks I'm afraid. Another time these would obviously be fine but thi time I have to rule them out.
I'm not a member of anything as I am new to camping (this time round) and struggling with an unwilling hubby :(. I have to make it as easy as possible.
Thanks for trying everone but hubby is adamant he will not come so it wont be happenning. I guess it will be another weekend on his laptop pretending he is doing something important - cest la vie.

He has said that he is not coming and if I want to go it will have to be without him. I am really upset because I know he enjoys it when he comes and there are no other holidays on the horizon and there are not going to be for a long long time. He know this too which is why I am so upset. Its such a nice thing to do with a 4 year old and all other holidays are very stressful for me so I think its the back garden or nothing. Maybe I should get a one man and go on my own.
You will have to go on your own, with your 4 year old. Its not half as difficult as you imagine. My cousin went camping with her brother and his family, but he had to cut short his trip, and ended up leaving my cousin and her 4yr old son on there own for 2 days and nights on a big commercial site. She is expecting as well, and she was initially worried about being on her own, especially at night. However, she said in the end, it was lovely, as she was able to spend some quality time with her son, and got to do exactly what they wanted to do, without any interuptions from other people. She said she would do it again at a shot. The nights were easy, once son had settled in tent, she would sit up for a wee while, then turn in herself, sleeping in the same room as him.
Go on, just go for it. Your hubby will miss you both and might make him think twice the next time you invite him camping. If he knows you can manage without him and have a smashing time, he won't be able to resist coming to see what all the fuss is about
------------- its me again!

i take my own kids, aged 3, 5 and nearly 7 camping on my own. we go to greenacres farm park in north wales, just outside queensferry, its a great site for kids, in fact my kids cry when we come home.
it would be easy for you to get to just of the M56, head towards queensferry and its signposted, its a gem of a site, loads of stuff for the kids, loads of animals to see/feed, tractor rides, and a small club house, the owners work very very hard to keep the 11.00pm curfew and it like other sites does work.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
