The reviews of the couple of sites near Royston looked really nice when I was planning a local weekend recently, but we ended up zipping up the A120 to Dorewards Hall Farm near Braintree which was a nice but basic site with a tea garden, farm shop and petting animals section.  My friend has just been to the Hoddeston site for the weekend which was supposed to be closing in September due to the olympics but someone's bought it and it's still open.  The only problem there is the noise all night from the trains!  I also know someone who swares by the site in Royston but I've not checked it out.

Roydon Mill between Hertford and Harlow is quite a nice site. Also Ashridge Farm CC site between Baldock and Royston just off the A505, Commons Wood CC site at Welwyn Garden City but this is members only.

Just a little bit further afield is Old Manor at Grafham Village nr Huntingdon, Houghton Mill CC site nr St Ives to name but a few.

Hope this helps, if not try yell.com

Vic
