We are looking for a site near to the M6 for a stopover on our way to Scotland in 3 weeks time, we are setting off from Huddersfield on a friday 18.00 ish so want to travel no more than 2.5 hours so get there 8pm, the closer the site is to the motorway the better as we want to be off before 9am on the saturday on our way to Glen Nevis.

Setting off from Milnrow (J21 M62) I find that the CC site at carlisle ( Englethwaite hall ) is just 2 hours and 15 mins from home. But more probaly the CC site at Low Park wood near kendal ( about 4 miles from J36 of the M6 ) would be about right

Westmorland Services just past J38 of M6. They have their own site. Turn left half way down the slip road into the site. you cannot get much closer than that! It is a very nice site with all facilities. 80 pitches on gravel hard standing. I have been a couple of times. it is well screened so traffic noise is minmal and should suit your travel arrangements ideally.

Telephone 015397 11322 or look on

Caravan site at Tebay services is an excellent site for a stopover, amazingly quiet for a site 30 seconds off the motorway!! Good food and a great farm shop at the services, a good dog walk and a lovely warm clean toilet block. Well recommended.

Forgot to mention you also get vouchers for discounts in services and farm shops. Tebay is best services in country. We always stop for breakfast on our way to scotland and its only 35 miles from home!! We also use the site for weekends sometimes to chill

Low park wood caravan club site at Kendal is great for a one night stop, We did that on the way to scotland, They let non Caravan club members in so you shouldn't have a problem, About 10 mins max off M6

C & CC club's windermere site is not much further along though and they have a pub  on site that does food (save that cooking after your journey)
