My cousin is getting married in May (over may bank holiday weekend) and so I was thinking we may go down and make a holiday of it and stay for a week, seems an awful long way to drive there and back and only stay one day.
I've never been to Dorset and have put Purbeck in the campsite search but it doesn't bring anything up. When I put Dorset in it obviously brings loads up but I don't have a clue if any of these are near Purbeck.
Lol - can anyone help??
I'm not bothered if its a small distance but I don't want to be at the other side of the county! Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thank you!

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Go to Multimap and type in Prubeck will give youthe location of Purbeck.. I personally would've said it was the Wareham area, but multimap puts it slightly further north. But will help narrow it down, as you can use the map to locate towns, then search campsite search for the towns.

Purbeck is a rather large area which stretches from Wareham in the north down to Swanage in the south, there are loads of sites in this area around Swanage and lulworth and quite a good cc site at wareham .
1) Tom's field at Langton Matravers which is very close to Swanage here The only thing with this site is that it has now appeared in the Cool Camping Guide and the free guide from the Guardian last year, so I wonder if it will be rather over crowded now!
2) Woodlands, between Wool and Wareham - a bit further away from Swanage, but a lovely quiet tent only site. However if you have kids it may not be for you as there is no play area. Check it out here
There is another site which we like the look of but have not used, but it's reviews look good and we may try it next time we go to Dorset, Norden Farm at Corfe Castle, which is a lovely village, here

That Woodlands site looks lovely but no dogs allowed . MT

I agree Merry, looks perfect, but shame about no dogs.
I also like the look of Norden farm but I'll have to show hubby and see what he thinks, and toms field looks nice too - decisions decisions!
Thing is its gonna be bank holiday in may when the wedding is so know for tha weekend it will be REALLY busy and I want to try and make sure its a site that will def be able to cope with the stampede and not just one that wants to cram as many people as possible in.
Try Norden Farm Campsite, click on my reviews one there for August this year. If you like the look of it and book request a pitch on the main field or donkey field these are close to the new facilities which are fab.
Purbeck is a great area for a holiday, so much to do and see.
Well thank you all for your help. Burnbake is the one were gonna go for I think as it seems we can book there if its a bank holidayso we're gonna try it and see, fingers crossed!!
There's something special about Burnbake, that's why so many people return year after year. Many campers have fires (off the ground) in the evening so take a fire pit and you won't feel left out, also remember your flipflops for the shower block as it's a wooded site and the floors can get a little grimy.
My 'must see' recommendations for the area are Studland Bay (Knowl beach is my fav), Dancing Ledge, the deserted village of Tyneham, the Square & Compass at Worth Matravers http://www.flickr.com/photos/flashlamp/2039023100/ and Brownsea Island.
Tyneham is worth a visit but be warned that is is in the middle of the Lulworth army ranges... and if they are firing then it will be closed so check in advance.
