We are thinking of taking our tourer to Scotland for a couple of weeks mid to end of October 08. Any area in particular that you would recommend? (Sites & places), for 2 adults & 9 year old, but dont want the all singing & dancing sites. Many thanks

A lot depends on what you are looking for. But we really enjoyed Rothiemurchus Camp & Caravan Park in Aviemore. Take a look at their site for local information.
Many thanks for the replies. We dont really know where abouts to travel to or what is open. We did email a site on Loch Ness but they close end Sept.
Klyasmum - that site looks lovely will email them
We do enjoy walking short walks with places of interest - ie this year we visited the lake district and although we were on a mapped route that states 1 - 2 hours it took us all day as we tend to stop & take in the area instead of just completing the walk. Somewhere with a nice country pub for a meal would be a bonus.
Once again many thanks

In that case may I suggest a few places, the Gart Caravan Park on the outskirts of Callander(Stirlingshire) would be an ideal base for you, it's ideal for visiting the Trossachs National Park, Loch Lomond, Blair Drummond Safari Park or Stirling Castle and the Lade Inn just outside Callander does excellent food and it also brews it's own beer.
Blair Castle Caravan Park in Blair Atholl(Perthshire) would also be a good base, it's near Pitlochry where you can have a visit to the salmon ladder, it's also near to Queen's View which is well worth a visit for the scenery alone. If you stay on the Blair Castle site you also get free access into the grounds of Blair Castle which is also well worth visiting and the Atholl Arms in the village is excellent.
Milton of Fonab Caravan Park(in Pitlochry) would also be a good location as it is within walking distance of Pitlochry.
If you want breathtaking scenery you should also consider Invercoe Caravan Park(Highlands), this is near Fort William and would give you access to some of the ferry ports that take you to some of the Islands.
Look at this site to find the area you think you would like http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/index.html Use www.flickr .com to see pictures of the locality....... the more pictures the more fondly remembered. Then find your site on this web site and use the aerial view in the maps to see whats nearby.
I went this year and did a round trip from Oban up through the Caledonian Canal to Rosemarkie near Inverness.(Dolphins) Up the East coast road to John O Groats then across to Scourie on the North West down to Ullapool and eventually through Glencoe and home...... 1770 miles- I had to stop taking photos it was taking too long to get around. Don't worry about the roads where they are shown as single track with passing places. Not a problem at all. (I've got an Autosleeper Symbol. Enjoy yourselves.
Galloway is an area often overlooked. Folk either to busy heading north or south. Park of the Brandedleys a bit commercial maybe, but very well run and would definately recommend. Plenty to do in surrounding area.

We had a lovely week at Lomond Woods which is at the south end of loch lomond, easy walk to the village, to the loch and visitor centre, aquarium, 3 or four places to eat in the village plus macdonalds (if that takes your fancy), just on the entrance to the site. A nice park in the village, train to Glasgow, lovely places to walk and drive to. A drive up the loch is beautiful we went through Glencoe and up to fort william breath taking scenery.
Cannich Caravan and Camping Park

is our favourite. The owners Matt and Fay are really helpful and friendly.
It's in the middle of gorgeous scenery, in a wooded area with hills/mountains surrounding it. Glen Affric itself is about 12 miles up the road and is spectacular. (My photo on here is of Glen Affric).
Pub is 5 minutes walk into the village.
It has a small childrens play area, free showers, new cafe. No entertainment but with the Glen Affric pub up the road we didn't need it!
We love this site.
You wake up to the birds singing and there are bunnies around the site.
It's open for camping until the end of October. They have statics for hire all year round.
It's about 20 odd miles to Inverness and 12 miles from Loch Ness. There's lot's to see and do around the area whether you walk, cycle (the site hires bikes) or go in the car.
There is also free wifi available on site.
Caroline.
