My wife and I are planning a week in the Great Glen in June 2008. Hiring a motorcaravan from Inverness we plan to spend no more than two nights in any one location and spend time walking and generally relaxing.

Can anyone recommend sites. Ideally we want quiet sites with good quality facilities, excellent scenery and close to a decent pub!

Many thanks

At the start of the Glen, you really should try The GlenNevis camp site just up Glen Nevis from Fort William. Sits at the foot of Ben Nevis in truly wonderful surroundings. Fairly modern restaurant and bar next door to site and a wonderful Inn which is a converted barn on the footpath that leads on to Ben Nevis (a shortish walk). The town itself is about 15 minutes walk although its uphill back!. Nice town and friendly people and you can park in the supermarket carpark near the station if you have to take the van down.

Enjoy.

John

Fort Augustus Caravan & Camping Park gets a good review on this site. A lovely spot with nice pubs, shops, things to see within walking distance. I stayed in September and it was as clean as a new pin.Golf club over the fence if you want it.

Caledonian canal runs through the village and Loch Ness at the bottom of the path.Go to www.flickr.com and type Fort Augustus into the search engine. Really shows just how much there is to see here.

David
