We're looking for a campsite for the May bank holiday somewhere in the N/W region and within 1-2 hrs travelling of Manchester.
The only proviso is that we don't want somewhere that is too busy. i.e. don't want the usual Bank Holiday nightmare of fighting for a decent pitch space or being surround by other tents pitched within inches of your own. Conseqently any sites in the south/central lakes are probably out of the question.
We have two families each with large tents, not that bothered about the facilities as long as there is a clean toilet/shower block. A big field for five kids to run around in and tire themselves out and a family friendly pub within walking distance would be nice.
Any recommendations ?
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
What about the Peak District or North Wales? Plenty of sites to choose from. Greenhills at Bakewell is fine, bit of a hike into the town but Ashford is nearer, has a pub but it's a bit pricey, and you have to cross the A6 and walk down a side road to get to it.
dont think if you will get a "quite" site at a bank holiday weekend, but we are going to this site for may b/h weekend http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=6823 lovely site behind the pub, shower/toilets, 10 mins walk to lovely matlock
I was going to suggest Derbyshire as well. How about Edale, close to the pub, lots of countryside, but i haven't actually camped here so don't know how busy it gets on a bank holiday.
We camp a lot at Middle Woodbatch Farm in Shropshire. It is a small family run farm which only ever take about 10 tents so it is never too busy. The children/teenagers that we have seen there seem happy enough, loads of fields to wander about in and play football in etc. Bishops Castle with two or three pubs is about 2 miles walk down the lane. We didn't walk it with young children but quite a few people were. You just need to be cautious on the bends as you do anywhere. They even do a local produce cooked breakfast that was 5pp last year and delicious!
