this is a good site on the island not alot to do on the island other then walking so if you want other things to do you will need to leave the island. but other than that we satyed there for 4 nights and enjoyed it
Have been to Waldergraves a few times. It has a club house that has been recently refurbished, outside swimming pool, golf range, fishing lakes (apparently excellent, but we don't fish), on site restaurant and mini shop and the site is virtually on the beach. The camp is a lot better now than what it used to be! Would recommend this site, but being a commercial site often lots of kids so cannot gaurantee the cleanliness of the toilets and showers when in high season.
after going to breydon waters this year anywhere will be better we have hurd good things about the island am i right in saying that there is only 1 road in and when the tide comes in you cant get to the road?
You're almost right, there is only one road in, when the tide is higher than average the bridge floods. Nothing to do but wait it out. I thought the island was 'interesting'. There is a sailing regatta at West Mersea once a year but can't remember when. Waldergraves gets very busy - lots of statics, something in common with most sites on the island. Seems to be a mechanised water sports paradise. Loads of jetskies! Lots of noise and petrol fumes.

I couldn't remember the names of the bridge, Google has revealed it is called The Strood. The link below gives times of tides and an indication as to whether or not the strood can be crossed. I should imagine that Mays date will appear later this month.
If you do go to West Mersea, make sure you go to Cudmore Grove Country Park, great for kiting, you can even take a bbq with you, very open spaces. If you have kids, they will love the beach, collecting all the oyster shells. We did stay at Waldegraves but it was years ago, about four, think it's all changed now, but we enjoyed it. Have fun wont you?
WE Went to WAldergraves twice last year and it was fine.AS one of the other Posters said it does get very busy esp on a Friday Night. The main reason we went there was because it wasnt too far from home for our first Camping trip, not sure whether we will go again, depends what you want really.
