We spend a lot of time thinking about it but always end up going to the SW coast, I love to be by the coast, but this year we a spending a few days in Tewkesbury, then moving on to Chipenham for 4 days, both sites look lovely. We are then going to Weymouth for a week, Dorset is my favourite place.Last year we went to Devon and Cornwall, so we do like to make the most of our two weeks, we don't like to stay for more than 4 days usually..but we always make an exception for Dorset as there are so many lovely places to go. I hope you find somewhere nice and you are happy with it,,I hate it when the site does'nt live up to your expectations, Happy browsing..it took us about a month to sort ours lol
I haven't given this year's main holiday a thought yet, just hoping that we can get away. All being well we are going away for three nights next week, and even that is a dilema - although I am almost sure that it will be Clitheroe C&C club site. Nice site, if necessary next to Clitheroe baths, and as I know the area, I can take the kids to places like Pendle Hill. The part of me wants to go to Wales - possible to an all singing all dancing site. Or then again possible Derbyshire.
I think that the final decision will be made next Tuesday when I frantically try and find a site that has spaces for the next four nights.
Last year I had narrowed it down to about three sites, when Richard decided that he wanted to go to one which he'd been to as a child. It was great, because it had an indoor pool, which we used a couple of times, and the play area was close to our pitch, which meant that I didn't have to go with the kids, as I could see them from where I was sitting outside the tent.
I think that in the end I just make a snap decision and stick to it.

There are so many sites which look great it is really difficult. I end up choosing an area which has loads to do for the kids and the OH and then find the campsite. I usually end up picking one which has good reviews as I like to know what other peoples experiences have been before I go. I have quite a few sites in my virtual brochure but then I end up finding another one which looks lovely.
thanks. i have a week booked in august but not sure where to go for a few days in july.. oh well i'll trawl through & have to agree that if their are no reviews i dont really look into it furthur though its not to say it wont be a nice site i know maybe just new.
Most of my camping is done in the top half of Scotland.
When I'm at a site I try and visit all the nearby sites and make a note of the ones to stay at, at a later date.
Works for me!

For a weekend, I start off on the Tesco Clubcard deals page - work out what 'attraction' is going to be the free "day out" and then look at the reviews to find a suitable campsite nearby. Has to be within 2hrs of MK to allow for a Friday night arrival.
This weekend its Conkers, last weekend it was Blenheim Palace. If we can we will also get in a Warwick Castle weekend at some point (got rained off at the BH).
My first consideration is who's coming, because it can work out very expensive.
If all the gang are going (6 of us) it is cheaper to book with sites who charge a pitch fee for up to 6 or even 8 people. Haven sites do this and although me and OH are no big fans of Haven, at certain times of the year, their 'up to 6/ 8' price including entertainment passes can be hard to beat. At the May Day weekend, we paid £60.00 for four nights for 6 people. This worked out at £2.00 per night per person. The dog was most expensive coming in at £3.00 a night, but it was still very cheap considering what you get, very good value for money. I can't consider sites which charge extra when more than 2 people are camping, as it just works out too expensive. Some sites charge an extra £5.00 per person per night and then another £5.00 per night for an extra car. It just gets too expensive.
If it's only me and him, I prefer countryside with nice walks, he prefers beaches, so we take it in turns where to visit.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
