Is it just me, or has the whole world discovered camping this year?
OK, so I know it is the busiest holiday week of the year, but we are off work from 30 July and 6 August and are in desparate need a camping fix, preferably somewhere close to St Ives, Cornwall. We started off looking for a site with mostly tents, possibly electric, walk to town and coast path, clean showers and flushing loos and maybe even a sea view. We would now consider virtually anything - with a flushing loo, that is! We have trawled the internet, called more than 10 sites and tried the local Tourist Info Centre - nothing! Does anyone have any suggestions? It looks like we may admit defeat and pop over to France, but I would love to get to Cornwall if at all possible. I have been told that the only chance we have of getting a free pitch is if someone cancels last minute due to illness - not that I am wishing that on anyone!

We have just come back from a second great holiday at Tower Park, St Buryan, which I guess is bout 10 or so miles past St Ives but also very handy for Sennen, Porthcurno, Penzance, Mousehole. Rural outlook not sea views though I'm afraid.!You could be out of luck if you need electric but otherwise they might be worth a call.
I know its not Cornwall...but the site overlooks Cardigan Bay - amazing sea view from wherever you pitch...basic but clean facilities, electric, coast path ( one to the NT beach Mwnt )...farm sausages, bacon etc...wash up and laundry room...donkeys, ponies, cattle etc...Nant-Y-Croi...they may have space.
Again this one isn't Cornwall, but try Tudor Glen nr. Tenby Excellant facilities, outdoor pool and near Barafundle Bay, one of the best beaches in the UK!

I believe I'll have another beer!!

We've booked into Lower Treave Campsite which is about 10 mins from Sennen from 20th August to 30th August.
Albeit it has been booked for a couple of months now but you might be lucky
Superb site with electric hook-up and good clean showers.
As above this site is rural but within easy distance of shops.
We have booked and paid for (£200 ) for a week at the Monkey Tree on a Premium touring pitch (12m x 10m with electric, water and drainage supply) but unfortunately we cant go as its right in the middle of our IVF treatment.
Very stupidly when I booked last year I opted against paying the extra £10 for cancellation insurance so its lost money now.
Any use to you? I cant see transferring the booking to somebody else being a problem if they dont offer refunds.
Hi Try Little Travarrack (at Carbis Bay approx 1 mile from St Ives) - we are going back in August for our 4th consecutive year - Or try the search facility at the top of this page
Thanks to everyone for all those suggestions. We have contacted all the sites you have all suggested in West Cornwall without success as yet. Many thanks to slinger for the offer of Monkey Tree, but we have been to North Cornwall so many times we fancied a change (best of luck with the IVF - some things are even more important than camping and fingers crossed for some new little campers next year) We are having a think about the sites in Wales, the beaches look wonderful. Now, if anyone can suggest a site where the sun always shines.....
