I think there has been some confusion about Conkers Club Site - facilities or no facilities. I just wanted to confirm that the site is now full facility. So those of you who may have rejected it before because of lack of facilities it's now got it all!
I'm now going to go and have good talk with myself for not updating the site entry on this website and confusing campers!

Hi Tamsin,
We went to Conkers a couple of weeks ago before it became a full facility site. We loved it and got a really warm welcome from both Assistants and HSMs. I did mention on here what they had told me about the opening date for the facilities. However we will not be going again as we have been priced out now. From there we went to our very favourite site, Ebury Hill. There are many of us that enjoy the no facility sites and they are very few and far between. When you have a caravan with all facilities in it, why do you need them on site? An electric pitch is useful but we are now turning more to the THSs as the prices are reasonable and a solar panel makes it possible to have everything we need. The prices on Club Sites are becoming beyond us as pensioners. This is from ex HSMs who worked for the Club for 14 years until retirement.
hi i agree with pippa there are not enough non faclity site we are of to ebury hill today for 5 days we went thee other week as the price is right and then of to a temp hol site in bewdley as you say we have every thing in our caravan we always use our own faclitys if they are on site or not
We have just returned from 2 nights at Conkers. Chosen because it is a full facility site now and just 45 minutes from Brum.
Obviously the news hasn't got round yet it is full facility as we were the only tenters there. That was a bit surreal. Not the daily ambient noise of people being outdoors. I'll write a review in a bit but going to sit in garden now :-)
I quite understand what you mean but what a shame its not like the early days. You went prepared with your own toilet tent and portaloo. We started with a tent and in those days even the club sites were without EHUs and facilities.
Give Martin and Bob Hill Best Regards from Margaret and Ray. They will know who you mean especially if you mention Ebury.
THSs are Temporary Holiday sites run by volunteers on various types of sites (usually a farmers field or a rally field of a site} They are run by the DAs (District Associations) of the C&CC ( Camping and Caravanning Club).
They are extremely cheap and usually in lovely areas. Sometimes there is entertainment laid on by the Stewards such as coffee mornings and get togethers in a marquee. People join in and make friends. Usually the sites are basic with water, rubbish collection and a 'latty hole'--- somewhere to empty your loo. No electric but most people have a solar panel or generator. Prices range between £3.50 and £10 for the whole unit including awnings pup tents and dogs. Most are around a fiver. You do need to be a member of the C&CC though. They are brilliant. I hope that answers your question.
Trying to be diplomatic here but will probably get shot down for this but it is my (personal) opinion that more campsites are being spoilt by the prescence of people who I would not like to share a site with. Increasingly, we hear on this forum of trips spoiled by noisy and rowdy elements. So it seems the answer might be to join the C&CC and use sites that are favoured by camping devotees ? Have avoided joining up to now but am considering it.
Re THSs - if you don't book for some of them, is there not a risk you could travel a long way and find the site is full ?

Hi Dave, You will not regret joining the C&CC if you prefer the more regulated sites. The rules are there and if you don't like them then don't go. It is all quiet after 11.00pm and the sites gates are locked. No vehicle movement on site then until 7.00am when the gate is unlocked. This is a very strict rule adhered to on all club sites. On most sites ball games are usually not allowed as are kites. There is usually a play area for children and dog walks. Dogs also have very strict rules. They MUST be on a lead at ALL times and picked up after. The HSM has authority to ask people to leave if they are causing problems.
Re THSs. They are usually large fields and I have never heard of anyone ever being turned away. The rules are the same as for the sites.
Have a look at the website for more details and to join.
