Being a new camping recruit I am looking for inspiration for a site we can take our caravan to in November. Can anybody recommend a site we could go to? We live in Berkshire and don't want to travel miles but a couple of hours drive is fine. I'd like some form of pub or village to be within walking distance so we can trundle out in the cold weather for entertainment and food.

Whitemead in the Forest of Dean is open all year, I think. It has good reviews and feedback on here and although I have never stayed here I have been on the site a lot with my kids as my ex MIL is a member (it is owned by the CSMA ) it has a lovely pool, cafe, bar etc but is a million miles away from a Haven type site. It's about 20 minutes off the junction just after the old Severn Bridge. Worth a look? Sarah xx
I could recommend Bashley Park in the New Forest. Pool, sauna etc. Entertainment (although probably scaled down in winter) Clean/spacious loos ans showers. A few lovely pubs around - maybe not walking distance, but there is a bar on site anyway!
Devizes Camping & Caravanning Club site is open all year and is next door to a really nice pub. From there you could visit the national arboretum at Westonbirt - if you are there early in November the autumn colours on the trees are beautiful. We visited in late October 2 years ago and we were about a week too early for the very best autumn colours.
From the campsite you can walk along the canal towpath into Devizes town centre past about 20odd locks - our boys loved helping to open the lock gates for the passing canal boats.

Well Shaz!! How on earth did you guess? Looks like Devizes is set to haunt me forever although I may try it one day when the 'undesirables' have moved.
Thanks for all the tips everyone, I'm going through them.
It involves ex'es Fab Bum - best to stay out of it!!!

Hi Fat Bum, didn't mean to insult the area but just keen to avoid it as there is history there that we would prefer to avoid in the interests of an enjoyable break.
Being new to this site I've had a bit of a nosey and seen you liked a site near Maidenhead. That's really close to us so will have to give it a go.

Hope you enjoy your stay at Amerden, we used it last year to attend a family wedding in Windsor - the site was walking distance from the reception! We only stayed 3 nights but it was a really clean site and we had a lovely walk on the sunday along the Thames into Maidenhead past the houses of the rich and famous!
Another nice site, which I haven't got round to putting a review on for yet, is Horsley C&CC in Surrey - we used this last October to visit Thorpe Park and London with our youngest son. Not sure if this is open in November though.

We went to Charmouth near Lyme Reges last November for a week and had a great time. We stopped at Newlands Caravan site. See the link for site reviews.
