I've just tried to book a Camping & Caravanning club site for 31st December to 4th January. Apparently, I can book 31st Dec & 1st Jan, but can't book 2nd, 3rd, 4th until booking opens for next year on 2nd November!!
This is crazy! I won't risk booking 2 days (and paying a deposit for it) only to find I can't get the rest in November! So, it's back to the drawing board.
How much custom will the CCC lose with this daft policy

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
I would book the two days and book the others on the 2nd Nov.I can't see many people wanting to go away 2nd Jan. If you cancel because you can't get the extra days at least you know you won't lose your deposit

I thought that, if I cancelled, I WOULD lose my deposit? Also, I would have to pay 2 deposits - 1 for each booking. No, I'm afraid I'm not prepared to take the risk, and it has become a matter of principle now!
Anyway, since I am a member of the CC as well, I've managed to book in at their Blackpol South site for the full period I wanted, so the C&CC have lost my custom. Their loss!
I hadn't realised that they would hold my deposit in credit - thanks for that, Cath. The only time I have cancelled a CCC booking, due to illness, I lost my deposit. However I cancelled in the week leading up to my holiday, so maybe that's why.
I got a reply from the C&CC, which just reiterated the policy and didn't address the issue at all! Useless!
Anyway, if any other C&CC members agree with me that this policy is ridiculous, could I please ask you to email the C&CC to tell them so? Maybe by "pester power" me may get them to change their precious policy. The Caravan Club, who are noriously "jobsworth" allow such bookings, so I can't see why the C&CC can't!
Thanks for reading my rant!

the other side is i have been trying to book new years eve for a 5 day stay at a site in either north east, durham or north yorkshire on the caravan club site and just 2 sites are showing availability so people must just book up everything as no need for deposit - dont get me wrong i like the fact that it works like that but busy times you cant get anything!

Yes, I've fallen foul of that one as well! I booked into one of the only 2 sites available in the North (Blackpool), although it's not ideal for my needs. It's not the deposit I object to - in fact I would prefer there to be one for CC sites to help prevent the problem you're having.
As for rallies, not my cup of tea, I'm afraid! I'm not knocking them, but I prefer the quieter life!
Happy New Year everybody (what am I saying? - it's still August!!!!)

Difficult to see what your objection is here, are you saying that the date for booking should be moved forwards from the 2nd November?
Or that there should be a flexible way you can book over extended periods?
For administrative reasons you'd have to have a day when the new year started taking bookings.
Since, come 2nd November you'd be front of the queue, it shouldn't really cause any problems.

Ring up the site direct and book over the phone. That's what we did as we had the same problem.

My objection is that I would be forced to make 2 bookings for a single camping period, with no guarantee that I would be able to get the second half of my booking. Why would you say that I would be front of the queue come 2nd November? It's a free-for-all, isn't it?
I'm not looking for special favours - all members should be able to book for a CONTINUOUS period over Christmas/New Year. I have no argument with the 2nd November new year booking start date for bookings STARTING on the New Year.
If you can get the dates I wanted by booking with the site direct, then this makes the whole thing even more of a farce!
