I've just returned from a great stay at The Dower House in Thetford Forest with my two boys and their friend and packed the usual sun cream, bite cream, first aid kit etc. needed for 3 boys with bikes. However it was me that needed patching up after being attacked by a Reeve's Pheasant while cycling along a forest ride close to the site. This magnificent bird crossed the path in front of me and I stopped to photograph it and to my surprise it launched at me with its spurs and drew blood in 4 places on my hand & wrist which swelled up and became extremely painful especially as I had to de-camp the following day. I've been chased by a Capercaillie in Sweden before but I've never known anyone who's been attacked by a Pheasant. Can anyone beat that?

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
How strange - it must have thought you were threatening it somehow (do they still have chicks at this time of year?) or maybe it's like they say about midges - there's some scent you give off that they object to - not meaning to give any offence here - couldn't have liked it's picture taking wihtout being paid for it (could be a celebrity pheasant!!)
I'd avoid swans if i were you - they can get nastly and break limbs if you're unlucky.

Feared much worse starting to read this. Hope you're feeling better.
I've changed the title but I'm not sure it reads much better.
The swelling is going down although it still remains painful, thanks for your concern. No young were seen, I presume it's a rogue male. Come to think of it, I hadn't used the shower during my stay. I know swans can be aggressive but they usually give a warning before making an attack and rarely at humans.

I've uploaded some pics of the bird & its weapons just in case anyone else happens upon this killer bird in the forest. He escaped unhurt you'll be pleased to know kimmie.
