Mini I have been looking for a decent site in Essex too and they are hard to find. We really struggle here as opposed to other parts of the UK.
Grange Farm at Thorpe Le Soken is quiet and peaceful with no entertainment unless you travel 20 miles to Colchester.
I don't know what Waldegraves on West Mersea is like these days, at one time it did look promising but for entertainment you will still need Colchester.
Personally I am not a great fan of the sites around the Clacton area, though I haven't tried the site at Homestead Weeley, yet again you will need a journey to Colchester.
