I have just left a review of Yellowcraig on its site listing - it is a lovely site and wonderful location, with excellent facilities. We arrived on the Saturday (6th Sept), having been directed away from River Breamish because of flooding (yes, that weekend!), and had booked to leave on the following Friday. Returning from a walk, on the Wednesday afternoon, we found four Gypsy / Travellor Caravans (with associated Transit vans) parked in the Council Public Car Park which is just outside of the Yellowcraig site entrance. On arriving at the site entrance, we saw three of their boys being escorted off the site by the Warden's. Yellowcraig Council Car Park is free, and has a free water tap, mostly used to provide water for the many dogs that are exercised on the beech area around Yellowcraig.

On speaking to people, it seems that Yellowcraig has been troubled by the arrival of Gypsy/Travellor Caravans for the past three years, and I am guessing that it would be the same time each year (September). The local Council cannot erect any barriers to stop Caravans getting onto the Car Park road, because it is the same road that Yellowcraig site uses, and the car park itself cannot be blocked because local people still need access for the beech area. An application for removal of the G/T Caravans was made straight away, however, it takes three weeks under our present laws to serve it (Eire does it in 48 hours). We moved on Thursday morning, along with many other's.
