I have spent hours searching, not just the Lake District, but Wales, Scotland and other areas to find our ideal site (not Haven!)
We have now got a dog, so the site must allow dogs, and the only other thing we want is an indoor pool, incase of bad weather, as long as the kids have done a bit of swimming they are quite happy to amuse themselves and play games in tent with us for the rest of the time, and makes it slightly more relaxing for us! ( Is that selfish???)
Not too worried about a bar or takeaway, but locally i guess that would be handy.
And as we are planning this as a main 2 week summer holiday, there would need to be a few places of interest in and around the area! (Not too much, dont want to be heading out every single day!)
Any suggestions will be very gratefully recieved, I have gone a bit brain dead now, from looking at so many sites, and reading loads of reviews, so am going to start from scratch again, and order in some brochures, I think!!
Thank you!!!

We stayed at Holgates which is just on the Cumbria/Lancashire border. They definately allow pets someone even had a cat. There is an indoor pool which is included in the pitch fee. Nice sice can be expensive though depending on when you want to do.
hi would recommend south end caravan park walney island, barrow in furness, has a pool, kids room, fully serviced pitch, very friendly place, with miles of beach for the dog.

I am not sure if Holgates would accept our tent, it says 'We are unable to accept large tents'. And would be £37.50 per night, maybe extra for dog, but cant see price for that. (£487 for 13 night holiday!)
I have ordered a Whitecross brochure, thanks. Would work out to £30 per night. (£3 per night for the dog, and only £1 per night for extra child!!)
jobo0410, the site looks absolutley ideal, apart from the fact they dont seem to take tents!!!!
Have you looked at Butterflowers in Port Haverigg, Millom? We have stayed there a few times and love it. You are on the coast but with the Lakes hill behind you. The have an indoor pool which is handy if the weather isnt at its best! Have a look at these reviews: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=3993
You may struggle with the swimming pool on site however if you were to book a site in Keswick which is one of the main tourist towns in the lakes, there is a leisure pool in the town, it has a wave machine and large slide, it has a nice sitting area round the side of the pool with a little cafe. I have spent many an hour reading my book with a cuppa while my kids have had a great time.
Plenty to do in Keswick and area.

Hiya not the lakes but there are quite a few sites in Dumfries with pools, I have stayed at 2 of them , Southerness & Auchenlarie, they are both good sites with plenty on them for the kids and plenty to do round about, also believe Brighouse bay is good as well.

I think Brighouse is great, although the pool is not huge there is plenty of freedom on site for the kids. You would also have direct access down to the sea although there is not much else within walking distance. The pool in Keswick is really good for kids but maybe not exciting enough for teens, only one slide.Just outside the pool in Keswick you would be able to join a nice walk or cycle along the old railway.Castlerigg Hall in keswick has great facilities for tenters but I am not sure if they take bookings,or there is the C+C club site down in the town.
Have fun.

I have to agree with clarks - Brighouse Bay in Kirkcudbright is a really great site.
I live in Cumbria and it is about an hour and a half from here so not too much further to go.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
