We were there last September, and we both commented on how hilly the surrounding area is. It's quite a steep drop down into Belper, and I don't think I would want to tackle it on a bike (but then I am a lazy old moo, and don't really do bikes anyway  ).  It's a fantastic site though, we loved it.

Thanks for the replys.  Now just to convince my husband to leave the bikes at home. I did think it wouldn't be suitable.  The description of glorious views over the valley rung warning bells.  I'm more suited to Norfolk when it comes to cycling. He He.  Even there I managed to complain about some of the inclines.  Its looking a bit windy and cold for cycling anyway at the moment.

Are there plenty of things to do nearby.  Got one day earmarked for shopping in Derby but the rest of the time hope to do more outdoor things.
