Has anyone used the Parkdean Holidays sites for touring...?

We have looked at their website & brochure which both have very little information about their touring facilites and we would like some feedback from folk that have been there.

Normally we would not choose this type of park but we have a 9 yr old grandson as company....

After a gap of more than twenty years avoiding camping in the UK, camping mainly in France, I am currently staying at the Parkdean site in Cornwall. I have to say that I wasn't expecting much from this site but have been pleasantly surprised. However, there is a but!!!!

We were originally going to camp but after seeing the poor weather forecast OH gave me an ultimatum; so we are staying in a static van. The site is clean, not too rowdy and the entertainment facilities are quite reasonable, not too in your face or pushed down your throat. If you are thinking of coming and staying in a chalet or static van, the site is very reasonable and I would come again.

Touring.....
The touring pitches are quite nice, shielded from the elements by high conifers. This is a good thing because the site is high up and exposed to the not inconsiderable amount of wind. Note, the pitches are all on the level but the route ways linking the site are quite steep. You don't need to be Edmund Hillary but you do need to be quite active.

The big but is that whilst the site is kept nice and clean the ablution blocks are a bit ropey. The facilities are serviceable but are more in keeping with those that I encountered as a Sunday league player over 10 years ago. Maybe, given that I can't actually remember what the facilities were like the last time I camped in the UK, I have too high expectations? That said, if I encountered these in France I'd be moving on after one night!! I was going to say that I really don't fancy finding out what they will be like in high season. But, to be fair, given the relatively small number of pitches I doubt they ever get really nasty as the ratio between numbers of users and number of facilities is quite good. It's a shame really as it spoils what could be a very reasonable site. I think the problem is that they have gone past just a bit of sprucing up and need a ground up rebuild and I guess that costs :(
