Hi All,

Looking for sites that will be close to beach preferably with sea views for week in sept. The only stipulation is the shower block must be spotless.

We are (sadly) based in E Yorkshire (I'm just joking although look forward to one day returning home to old reeky, probably when I'm 70...only 40 yrs to go then! LOL but regularly drive many hours to dundee, Skye etc to see family so distance does not bother us.

We previously camped at camasdarech and North Berwick (our fav spot as we got married there 2yrs ago) but we are now on the hunt for a new site so any advice appreciated.

Thanks

North Ledaig near Oban is very good, right on the bay with sea views.  Also a bit further North, Bunree near Fort William.  Not on the sea but right on the shores of Loch Linnhe. There is a lighthouse, and boats and even quite big ships occasionally come past.

Hiya, recently back from Benderloch (Keil Crofts/Seaview) north of Oban. Nice site with sea views and clean toilets but not keen to accept kids anymore! There are some beautiful sites on Kintyre right on the beach. We like Killegruer but it can be breezy! Also, Dumfriesshire sites if you don't want to drive too far.
BTW I've got a feeling the North Ledaig site doesn't accept tents!

Arisaig is the ultimate place to camp on the west coast of scotland. Many campsites, there great beaches and fabulous views of the hebrides. There is a new road also making the journey quicker but still as beautiful.

you can nip up the road to mallaig and catch a ferry to skye if you want to see the wild west coast. ( we recommend Dunveigan, spotless shower block)

Then get bridge back over to kyle of lochalsh and mosey on up to Applecross, The road in is spectacular and scary but the campsite is well equiped, wifi etc. ( good luck if p*ssing with rain).

This would make a great week long tour of the west coast and you will feel as though you have travelled off the beaten track.

Actually i'm gonna pack my tent and do it again. I'll remember  midge net this time and one for my 3 year old.

Happy camping good luck

Shellx

New England Bay CC Site has its own beach but you need to stock up with food as shops are few and far between. Its the only place we have been rock pooling and actually found anything.

Try Castle Bay at Portpatrick.  Basic site with clean facilities.  If you have a tourer or tent you can sit on the cliff edge overlooking a ruined castle and the sea.  A lovely 20 minute coastal walk takes you to the pretty harbour of Portpatrick with great restaurants and a lovely place to take in the ambience!  If you like walking you can start do the Southern Upland Way. The South of Scotland is beautiful and often overlooked for the Highlands.  Coming from Scotland we "do" all the areas and can confirm that the South has as many attractions as the North.  That said, the areas mentioned above, Arisaig, Clachtoll and North Ledaig are also great!

Hi All,

Thank you for all the posts & recommendations, we will check them all out before deciding where to go for Sept's holiday.

I agree Arisaig is beautiful but as we have spent many years going there with our separate families we are on the hunt for some new locations that we can fall in love with just as much.

Although we have no kiddies yet I can think of no better holiday for young one's & look back on my childhood days with much fondness. OK now I'm just a big kid looking for any excuse to get back over the border, up into the highlands & onto the beach for some fun!

It never leaves you does it?

Have to agree, really quiet and great views but like most CC sites I don't think they allow tents..
