Hello, I'm trying to build a collection of good sites that are near a village or town. The reason being that we enjoy camping but also like to have a collection of shops and pubs to have a wander around. The ideal would be a short walk or regular bus service.
Thanks for any input, happy camping!
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Burton Hill is a little site on the edge of Malmesbury in Wiltshire. Malmesbury is a lovely town, with lots of shops and some fantastic pubs and restaurants. All within 10 mins easy walk. See here for all the details
Ayr Holiday Park, St Ives - just a short walk (10-15 mins downhill) into St Ives will all it's little shops and pubs, harbour and beaches! Perfect!

------------- More adventures in 2026 -
Feb - Steamer Quay CAMC, Totnes
May - Cheddar & Dulverton
June - Lake District
July - Devizes, New Forest & Dorset
September - TBA
Christmas - Ayr, St Ives
New Year - Hillhead CAMC, Brixham
I'd be really interested in your findings, I like to camp in the wilderness mostly, but we occassionaly enjoy the luxuary of a quick stroll into town should we fancy a drink or bite to eat without me having to drive.
If the lakes are not too far, Keswick C&CC is pretty much ideal for this 5 minutes into town,
C & CC site at St Neots is a lovely stroll through the park next to the river to the town, there is also a bus service from the town to Cambridge. Lovely site.
Wolverley C & CC site is also a shortish walk to kidderminster town centre along the canal which has loads of shops and pubs., There is also a pub right next to the entrance to the site, always handy
------------- Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

How’s the list coming on please. I am in exactly the same boat. Looking for sites within walking distance of nice towns.
Whitlingham is walkable to Norwich but very much in the countryside Close to watersports and skiing as well as everything you'd expect to find in a small city.
A day of all things motorhome and campervan. The show is held both in the main indoor arena and across the grounds. Catering, hot drinks and food options are available. Easy access to the site and free parking included. Win one of five pairs of day tickets
