How novel, I find something out every day. What you can say for certain is that no CC  owned site is adults only.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Rosco - whilst you comments as you say aren't personal the tone of them is pretty arguementative.  you obviously have a beef against being charged for electricity - the answers simple don't use electricity or the facilities of the site cos they all cost in electric to run!.

As site owners 'consumption' is difficult to judge as it is not just the EHU ( 16amp on this site to the pitch ) that a camper/caravanner uses as webby already stated installation alone to 40 pitches and yes I can tell you the price cost £40,000 plus VAT 3 years ago - we had to install a 3 phase supply so that the electrics don't trip each time you turn on the kettle which meant a new transformer and coming 5 poles ( £4000 per pole) from the main line.

Then theres what you use on your pitch - judge that as you will we get charged two seperate rates and a daily charge just for having the 3 phase supply ( plus VAT of course) - this is also charged the 5 months we are actually closed and the electric is off to the park and then there's the cost of electricity for running things like the lights in the amenity building, the boilers/ fridge, freezer, site light around the site etc etc etc etc etc etc  Oh yes and the electric companies don't say " oh cos your a caravan site your not going to be slapped for our increase in charges" 80% last year incidentially!

Then there's maintenance of the hook up units themselves and yes they do go wrong so MCB's RCDs need changing and at times the entire box needs an overhaul, and I forgot all this requires testing on a commercial basis each year - which our electrician doesn't do for free I can assure you!  So is there 'profit' out of your £2.50 answer = no way it simply doesn't cover it's own cost!

Liz

Have you thought of a CL 5 van site??, the rules are more 'negotiable' you sometimes get electric, if your choosy you can find a site that has lots of space for cricket matches, footy, etc, and they're usuallly much cheaper than a club site, personally I don't like club style sites, all too regimented etc, give me an empty field any day!!

Ok you usually have to use your van shower, or if its just a weekend an old fashioned washdown will do!!

Our local site owner who has about 70 hook ups lost £600 on the electricity charge last year so has upped it 50p per person which we think is fine.

Like Jakers said they are there to earn a living and I hope they earn a good one.

We have looked at putting in electric hook ups for a campsite we were proposing on our farm and believe me 40 hook up plus the possibility of moving/having an extra supply is extortionate. The electricity people wanted £14k to move the pole 25 yards, an extra supply was somethink like £15K . Thats before you allow for the hook up points themselves. We were looking at a bill of at least £35K and that was before drainage, water supplies, hardstanding, showers, loos etc etc etc etc for a small site!! You are an awfully long time getting that money back through site fees.

No I don;t begrudge site owners a fee for electric or anything else for that matter!!

Hi Caroline M and Jakers

Well as another park owner, I agree 110% with your comments on electric prices / installation / upkeep / escalating electricity prices ets etc. If Rosc32 thinks this life is easy, and park owners are greedy......pull your finger out Rosc32 and set up your own park. Then you will see our side!!17

You don't say what your job is but I would guess its hardly a fair comparison with setting up a campsite!!!

rosco32 - how do you believe businesses run if they don't charge their customers for what they purchase/install for that very business??  Am I missing something? - do you get your electric/gas/water/council tax/shopping/fuel for your vehicle/caravan/tent for free all without service charge?, if you do why do you need to work at all? and can you let us in on the secret????

CarolineM And Brookie - Clearly us greedy, horrible beings who own/run caravan sites are completely selfish by daring to charge customers for what they use, and we obviously shouldn't be allowed to have a life, eat, pay our own bills or pay for our children should we? - we are obviously only put on this earth to 'serve' folks like rosco - guys we are the ones who have it all wrong!

Liz

PS: before rosco stated this wasn't personal - well his/her tone certainly is personal - maybe time to close the thread webby/ratty?
