Is it just me or have the prices on all campsites gone up this year? Get the feeling that us hardcore campers are getting stiffed because of the credit crunch... zzzzzzzz many are choosing to camp rather than jet off. Love to get feedback on this to let the sites know we are onto this. There is only so much you can pay for a tent pitch in the middle of a field!!

I mentioned this before the start of the season and some folks shot me down in flames. I agree though, some (and only some i should say) are charging ridiculous surcharges this season.

Cool campers use Delta Pegs.
The happiest people aren't the ones who have everything they are the ones who make the most of everything they have
The sites that charge ridiculous prices only stay in business if people are willing to pay.
Unfortunately it seems that people are willing to pay here
At Hemelvaart (a national holiday here ) we were quoted up to (if you are not sitting down them you should before you continue reading) €360 for 4 nights !!!!
No way will we ever pay that much and we found a nice site for the same period for €120
Our 2 Esvos cost less than €360 combined !
If only people would boycott sites like that ........

I too have noticed this week not only have some of the campsites on this site have gone up avarage per night £2-3 at least. But also they are charging for a pitch and then per adult, child, dog, etc rather than family tent (tent 2 adults and 2 children). One site i wanted to book was charging £6 extra per adult but £1.50 per extra child?. Also car parking charges at some of the main tourist sites have shot up. £6 this year £4 last year at one place, What has changed nothing?
You only have to look at this site to notice just how popular camping & caravaning has got. I was working nights a couple of weeks ago and one night there was approx 1650 people on at 4 in the morning!. So sites have the demand at the moment.
Well, shop around. I found a really nice place one hour away from here that charged £18 per night for a tent, two adults, two kids, EHU and had really great toilets and two playparks. Then they give you a 3-4-2 deal if you stay the third night out of peak season so it ended up at £12 per night. I'll be going back...it was a really nice place.
The commercial sites are really taking the mickey...we do enjoy sites with entertainment but I refuse to pay the extortionate prices. Also the huge hike in the school holidays is another rip off !! And then if you go in school time they want to fine you We have managed to find a couple of reasonable sites that hopefully will turn out nice.

We hired a static van last week for £200 on a quiet site but within reach of the beaches we needed for surfing. We took two cars - one has folding back seats so the surf board fits inside.
Checked out some campsites today for how much we would have saved going camping. It actually would have cost more for us four adults to camp!!!
We have been pricing up a week in May next year in a static van for four adults or a pitch for four adults with a two berth Dandy trailer without awning, a two berth pup tent because we don't have an awning and two cars. Some sites say we will have to have two pitches but even the ones that we can all get on are working out at £40 to £50 more than hiring the static van!!!
Well i feel like i have a bargain for the summer hols.
Midbrooks campsite in Steeple ashton, Trowbridge very close to Longleat (reason for the trip) is purely £9 for the tent pitch regardless of size then just £1 per person.
Fantastic reviews on here aswell
