I am looking for a very dog friendly site in North Yorkshire. I would prefer the Dales, but wouldn't mind being based around York as I should imagine that would be central for sightseeing.
On my wish list is Large 'off lead' dog walk, fishing on site or nearby, dog friendly pub in walking distance. Bonus would be Wi-fi and adult only.
I know I have a large wish list but the main request is a site which is very dog friendly as opposed to one that merely tolerates four legged guests.
Thanks in advance

We stayed at Naburn Locks caravan park near York at half term and our dog was very warmly received by the warden. By the entrance to the site is a quiet road with poo bins at intervals, that leads down to the river, so you can walk your dog by the river. You can catch the river boat into York from down there too. There's a pub in the village within walking distance, but not sure how they are with dogs, but I'm sure the site would be able to tell you. There's an adult only section to the site, not sure about the fishing, but you are very close to the Ouse and again I'm sure the site could advise. So it ticks a few boxes.
Another plus is that there is a bus stop at the entrance to the site which takes you right into the middle of York. Also park and ride about 10mins drive away, and the York by pass with easy access to other parrts of N Yorkshire.
Having posted my reply last night, I was concerned not to mislead you. I did think that the literiture given out when you arrive, doesn't give the impression of being 'dog friendly' - it states that dogs must be on a short lead, and that if a dog is a nuisance then you will be asked to leave.
Our experience didn't match this, the warden was lovely with our dog, and even let him into the office/shop to stroke him,but our dog is placid and well behaved. We often don't have him on a lead around the our pitch as he doesn't wander off, and certainly had him on an extendable lead when walking on the site. There are dog-parking hooks outside the toilet blacks and shop. We saw other dogs on the site not on leads. I suppose the issue maybe that if a non-doggy-friendly camper complains then maybe the literiture gives them scope to act.
If you camping in a tent Masons Campsite at Appletreewick is dog friendly with two pubs within 5 minutes walk, one of which is very dog friendly. It is also situated on the river and there are fantastic walks for the dog to have a free run.
Riverside Campsite at Cononley nr Skipton has a camping field and hardstandings for Motorhomes or Caravans and that is a ten minute walk from the Railway Pub in the village which is dog friendly and again it is on the river and has lots of dog walking.
Scarborough Camping and Club accomodates all types of units and is just over the road to the Cleveland Way which just happens to lead to a great pub called the Scalby Mills Inn which usually has more dogs than people in it!
The Old Station at Masham is another site that takes all units and is a 15 minute walk to the village where you will find the White Bear Pub loves dogs and there are lots of walking opportunities and there is a river close by.
Those are just a few, check them out on the campsite search for more details, they are all great sites for dogs..........and pubs!

We stayed at Howgill Lodge which isn't very far away from Masons Campsite at Appletreewick, mentioned above, by Val. We haven't stayed at Masons, but passed it on our way to the pub. It looks a nice site, right on the river, but it looked too busy for us. Lots of families, lots of children, lots of noise, which is ok if that's your kind of thing. As our children are now grown up and don't want to come with us, we prefer the quieter sites, which Howgill Lodge is. It's a short walk down to the river, no busy roads to cross and a lovely walk, through the strid, to Bolton Abbey. I don't think it's adults only, but we didn't see any children. The site does allow dogs providing they are kept under control (which applies to most sites) but the walks in this area are great for dog walking and the views from the campsite are to die for. Check out the reviews.
Thank you Cockerspadgers I'll have a look at that one.
I'm not bothered about finding dog walking off site. We like to go out and about during the day anyway. What I am looking for in a site is somewhere for my dog to 'go' first thing in the morning (like 7am before I am ready to go off site ) and last thing at night (when it's dark)

We are going to Masons in july for a week in our caravan. We have walked past this site along the river and had Bonnie off the lead, you have to becareful as there are fields of animals around, but Bonnie soon stoped before we entered and she went back on lead whilst near animals. she loved playing in the river there.
