Please help!! I am going round in big circles. Trying to find a camp site for next week close (ish) to alton towers. Also thats not going to break the bank and provide clean basic showers & loos. I have done a search (to many times!!) and there seems to be a real gap in the market in that area, all the sites seem to have such iffy reviews.
We are looking for basic but clean, 3 adults 5 teens and 2 under 5's. so room to play games. not fussed about shop or even electic. and 30 mins drive to alton towers. Must have showers.
Some sites have been mentioned in other posts but cant seem to find details for contacting them.
I hope you can come to my rescue before my head explodes or I just delete the idea of going!!
cheers all, x

Hi Star campsite is definitely the closest as far as Im aware, as I passed it on our way to Alton Towers in April. I have no idea how much it is, but I've seen good reviews about it - as long as you abide to their strict rules & have a proper ehu socket as I believe they ask to see it on arrival.
The Star is closest, about 5 minutes, but their rules are very strict. It is a good site but on a steep slope, we have used it a lot in the past, but never again.
If you decide to use it,just make sure you read every word on the booking form they send you, as it is not east to rectify mistakes with them, once you have confirmed.
We didnt make a mistake when we booked with them last year, just were being honest wanting to add another person on and was had the misfortune to speak to the rudest man, I have ever had the misfortune to speak to on a campsite.
I spoke to lady a few minutes after who sorted it out and couldnt have been nicer, but was completely gobsmacked by the manner in which the man had spoken to me, he even slammed the phone down, while I was talking to him.
Put a review on here about it but it hasnt been used, also put a post on but it seemed to mysteriously disappear in a very short time.
Hales Hall is in cheadle about 4 miles away from towers on the road in. It as been taken over and looks a clean and tidy site now and as started getting good reviews. Cheadle town centre thers a morrisons for yer shopping about 10 min walk from the site.
We stopped at Peak Gateway at Asbourne, specifically for Alton Towers. Was put off staying at The Star because of the strict rules and Callow Top was a bit pricey for August bank holiday. (I did leave a review last year)
The site was absolutely fine and family friendly, very convienient for Alton Towers as well as going into Derby and Matlock area.
Best wishes Sam
