It's only our second ever time travelling to Newquay, and we are due to be there from Monday 10th August for 2 weeks.
However, we've thought of leaving a day early, staying overnight at Weston Super Mare, having a walk around in the day, dropping the legs, sleeping over and then setting off again around 6/7am to be on our campsite (Trevornick) at around 10-11am...
Thing is, we're not experienced caravanners just yet, and have no idea what we need to look for, staying overnight, etc.
I've heard there's a big car park in WSM, which the council let Vans & Motorhomes into, which costs £6.00 for 24 hours - Below is a snippet from a letter sent to someone on another forum, from the council...
"Thank you for your e-mail enquiry.
The only car park that will accomodate a motor home in the North Somerset Council car parks is the Locking Road, coach, lorry and car park situated at Francis Fox Road, post code BS23 3DE. It is a pay and display car park and you will have to pay the coach/lorry fee of £6.00.
If you arrive before 06:00pm you can drive straight in and purchase a ticket at the machines, by pressing the coach/lorry button (6 x £1.00 coins) 1 situated on the right hand side as you drive through, the other situated in the middle of the car park under the CCTV cameras. If you arrive after 06:00pm, you will need to press coach/lorry button and pay the £6.00 at the barrier. On leaving the car park if the barrier is still down, you just drive towards the exit side and the barrier automatically lets you out,

Ideally, we'd like to be as close as possible to the Center of WSM, as we dont want to be wasting time un-hitching the van and driving around for such a short stay.
Any advice would be great!

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Depends on how safe you think you will be. I for one wouldn't park up overnight on a public car park which will no doubt be exposed to the public. The other thing is, where is this car park? How much hassle could you have towing through a busy town area.
There is a site just off the M5 called Western Gateway. It's only a short drive into Weston. The time it takes you to unhitch and set up could be just as equal to the time it will take you to negotiate the town. The site is very easy to find. leave M5 at junc 21 turn right onto A371 to Weston super Mare.Immediately take the slip road to the left then first left, over the roundabout and the site is on your right. It's 1/2 mile from motorway and 4 mile from the town.
Having problems finding a site in WSM to be honest, there doesnt seem to be TOO many within close proximity of the centre.
It's Poppy's request that we spend the day / night there, and to break the drive up, so would like to make her happy and try and find somewhere to stay.
When travelling to Cornwall, retune to the local commercial radio, Pirate FM 102.2 or 102.8 the traffic reports are excellent and warn you of any blackspots traffic jams if you have sat nav you can re-route and this would save travel time.
The roads in Cornwall were very busy last week and a lot of traffic came into the county on Friday and Saturday
