Hi, we're looking for a site near York for the October Hols. We went down last year and stayed at the C & CC site at Sherriff Hutton, while it was a nice site it was rubbish for our dog as it only had a piddly fenced off 'dog walk' as soon as we went in she wanted out again. Had to take her on the grass verge along the road and with speeding drivers it was a nightmare. We seemed to spend most of the holidays looking for woods/walks to take her. Hopefully looking for a site with hardstanding and either a good dog walk or with somewhere very nearby to take them (added another one since last year!). Both retrievers, so need to be able to give them a good walk on or off site. Hopefully someone will be able to help, I keep looking at all the reviews but not sure if when someone states nice dog walk they actually mean for a teenie wee handbag sized dog!
Hope someone can help.

Only ever been to Rowntree Park CC....we have two dogs a Black Lab and a Yorkie and there were plenty of great places to walk even though the site had no dog walk.....Rowntree park next door..... just outside the site is the river with walks and about 1/2 a mile along the river another park with fields where you can let your dog off. The only thing is it is so hard to get in at Rowntree Park.
Many thanks for the reply Sue, Rowntree looks to be fully booked! Looked a really good site too (that's why it'll be full!). Back to the scouring the net!
You could try phoning the site to see whether anyone has cancelled.
One of our favorite sites is West Ayton CC Scarborough....this site has a brill dog walk ...PLUS...... my OH usually takes the Black Lab for a really good long walk and this is one of the best.....

Thanks Andy, looks a cracking site, but when I put the details into auto route it's coming up as 28 miles (45 mins), don't know if this is just too far away. I'll talk to OH about it - I'm looking at Naburn Lock (quite expensive) at the moment or maybe Boroughbridge C&CC, there was another caravan park near York but I can't remember which one (seen too many).
Thanks for all your help.
Andy just noticed your from Perth, do you use any of the local sites, we're in storage at Scone and are looking for somewhere nearby(ish) just for the quick weekend. Been to Scone C&CC (just wondered if there was anywhere else you could reccommend).
Can I but in and suggest Auchterarder CP. it is just 18 miles from Scone on the Dunning Road. It has a dog walk, across the bridge over the burn and through the woods alongside the burn.
There is also a path along another burn at the back of the campsite where you can also walk your dogs.

Jasmine Park between Pickering and Scarborough doesn't have a dog walk, but there is a nice country lane just outside the site, plus if you drive five mins into the next village, Brompton, there is a lovely stream runs through it which is fantastic for dogs, our Bailey loves water so it was ideal, but it's also a nice riverside walk if your dog isn't a water baby!
------------- May/June - Spring Valley
Aug/Sept - Leekworth
Naburn Lock's nice and there's a huge field beside it where you can let the dogs run - with the added advantage that you can get to the pub that way, too, which does very good food!
You've also got the river bus or the normal bus into York.
hi nicky , i can recommend Nether Craig cp Alyth. Corriefodly hol. park 6 miles north of Blairgowrie. East Bowstrips cp St.Cyrus. all are left turn out of Scone airport, so you do not need to go back into Perth for them
Invermill at Dunkeld i have been told is very good. i do a lot walking in that area its great for dogs, its 14 miles from perth on the A9
