I don't mind paying for Bailey as long as there are facilities for him, which has to include a good dog walk.

there's definitely an element of campsite owners making hay while the sun shines.  The amount of people camping has gone mad in the last couple of years, I can remember you could book a site for the August bank holiday 1 week before, now it's a nightmare trying to book anything for the school holidays anything up to a month in advance.  I've got nothing against new campers but soon a lot of them will decide they really do prefer a fortnight in Tenerife once a year and pitch fees will come down again as less punters means the sites have to compete with each other for our hard earned £s.  I stayed at a place a couple of weeks ago that charged me the best part of £40 a night for 2 adults and 2 kids!!! Normally I just wouldn't have gone there but I'd promised my daughter we would.

I think our 2009 summer weather will do more to entice folks back to continental holidays than anything else and yes, I think you are correct that come the 2010 caravan season, we will return to sites with plenty of room and sensible prices.

Folks are not buying new vans and hence the number of caravan manufacturers that are going to the wall. The cheap deals on one tent, 4 sleeping bags and 4 lilos for a 100 quid are not aimed at those who take camping seriously or those that intend to have camping holidays for now on.

Once the "fun" of camping/caravanning on a muddy site where it has rained for 10 days out of 14 has worn off, Mammy and Pappy will be booking their next summer Spanish resort by Christmas and to hell with the cost.

In the meantime I am looking forward to all the kiddiewinkies going back to school when we can then get away to enjoy the peace and quiet of some low season caravanning.
