Has anyone been to this site, and info good or bad would be appreciated. We are going down to Dorset for the steam fair. We have 2 children aged 4 and 5. Is there any pubs, shops within walking distance.
Thanks in anticipation.

Its a lovely site, It has a great kids play area and lots of lovely big old trees. Its a long walk or a short drive to the nearest shop- a large Tesco nearby and there is a choice of great looking pubs around. Love the Steam fair- cannot go this year, boo hoo. Youll have a great time, we lost the car on the big field at hometime, we walked up and down clicking the lock to try to find it so watch where you have parked.

Hi Mel, as stated earlier, it's a cracking site with huge pitches and play area. Decent shop on site for the essentials and they even do their own souvenirs with the name of the park on them, ie postcards, bottle-openers, corkscrews etc and a mobile fish & chip-shop turns up on Saturday evenings with fish to die for, queue was massive! It's also a working farm and the kids help out on the farm and can go on tractor rides. In the reception area there is a monitor so you can watch the swallows nesting in the eaves in the barn, they were darting in and out all the time, great to watch!
It is a good 3 mile to the nearest pubs, turn left at the site exit and follow the road to a little hamlet called Winterbourne Stickland with a nice old pub called The Crown which has a thatched roof and does great food. Turn right out of the campsite and left a bit further on and there is a pub called The Stour which was OK. Do a right at the roundabout past the Stour and on the left you pass the Hall & Woodhouse brewery which produces among others, Badger, Tanglefoot, Fursty Ferret & of course...Blandford Fly! Needless to say we brought a few crates home! Just past the brewery on the left is a large Tesco. Blandford Forum itself is a smashing little town with loads of shops, pubs, restaurants etc, even a bookies! We also enjoyed days out in Bournmouth, Poole & Wimbourne Minster.
Dont know if helps. We are actually camping at the Steam Fair, is £13 a night prebooked, then the entertainment is all on hand! they provide portaloos, water, a guy comes round with Gas, they have showers, but I think too expensive, I do a strip wash with bowl. All details in their website GDSF
Good luck
