i have decided to go to the Gower next year for our two week summer hols, and really like the look of Hillend, only thing that bothers me is that you can't book. We will be driving from London, and can go on a Sunday, but don't know if it's too risky.
On their automated telephone line, they only say that they can't guarantee a place if you go on friday evening or saturday. but i haven't managed to confirm this with someone who works there.
Has anyone tried to get a pitch there on a sunday afternoon in the school summer holidays and failed?
Can anyone recommend another campsite that is suitable for young families?

We went to Hillend in June I think it was. Unfortunately we arrived at about 2pm on the Saturday and were full for us as a couple but had room for those with children as they divide it into a 'singles' or 'families' fields.

We went to Port Eyenon instead and the site was ok but quite pricey. On Sunday we returned to Hillend and got a pitch without bother...much quieter then. I wold therefore suggest you will be fine for a Sunday arrival.

do you know if it has electric hook up? just bought cable and electric cool box after having a disastrous time trying to keep stuff cool in our normal cool box for 2 weeks!

Hi
We stayed at Hillend over the Bank holiday, we arrived on Thurs to be sure of a space and we were fine but by Friday night the Full sign was up - that was Aug bank Hols though - I'm sure you will be fine arriving on a Sunday as that is when most people leave. Although they don't have rules as to what time you vacate your pitch, so you might have to wait until evening!

It does get very windy there, but you should be OK in a Wolf Lake (We took our Vango instead of our BL6 and ended up nearly blown down and with 4 split poles)

I don't think they do have hook-up and they do tend to run out of icepacks at the shop, but it is a fantastic site for surfing
