On a recent visit to Cornwall we noticed the high increase this year compared to last year , with Higher Penderleath nr Stives charging us £34.50 a night ( no power hookup), alot to pay even if we did get a cheese eating furry friend visit us in the night.
Is it just me or has the price of a 8x8 grassed area in a field for night shot up in Cornwall.

Yes, I do appreciate that site owners have had a huge hike in price of things like gas and electicity, along with other things, but I do get the feeling that some of them are simply using this as an excuse to grealtly hike their own prices up.
Stayed at one site in May - £21 per night for a folding camper/awning/electic/dog/2 adults/2 children. Stayed at another site a few miles away the other week - £18 per night for the folding camper & 2 adults, then came the extras; 2 kids; dog;awning;electric;extra car; Worked out at £27.50 per night. Yes it was a very nice site - but had less on it than the cheaper site.
Pitch pricing is a minefield of plusses and minuses, i suppose it's a case of what facilities you need and location
We have just had a week at a great little site in the Goyt Valley in the Peak District, They have a small well drained field, toilets, showers, pot washing sinks, and a waste disposal point, chickens roam free around the site and eggs are £1-80/Doz
For a pitch, one tent, two people and a car, £8-00 per night, now five nights camp for £40 is, to me, a great price but our needs are few

I think it's a case of site owners making hay while the sun shines. There's been a massive increase in the numbers of people camping in the last few years and they know people will pay these prices, I paid the best part of £40 a night myself a month ago, normally I'd have paid nowhere near that much but I promised my daughter we'd go to that particular site. Wait til next year when a lot of the newbies have realised it's not for them and they really would rather have their 2 weeks in Lanzarote, camp sites will be back to having to compete for our custom and prices will level out a bit.
We've just been to Bude and paid £30pn for 2 adults, child and ehu.
I don't mean to be unkind, but as has already been said, lets hope the lovely (!) weather we've had this summer will put some of the newbies off and make it more affordable for next year.
