Can anyone recommend a site for children, we have a nine year old boy who is an only child but makes friends very easily and we would love a family friendly site with things to do - does not need to be haven or a big commercial site just somewhere there is a good sized play park, maybe somewhere he can ride his bike and a swimming pool would be an added bonus but not essential.
Cheers
Jeff

You dont say how far you want to travel but i will reccommend brighouse bay in south west scotland it has everything you could ever want and is a large site but still has the feel of a smaller site the way its laid out. My wife and daughter (12) are there just now for a few days there is reviews on here and check out their website.
Has a big play park, indoor pool, small games room and if its the summer it has loads of outdoor activites its not the cheapest park but im sure if you go you will go back.
I assume from your location your from the north east if so dont know if this is a good thing or bad thing but the park seems to get loads of goerdies lol.
Hope this helps if you want info on area just ask.
Will have a look - we are not bothered about distance to travel or that it is full of geordies - probably bump into someone we know usually happens whereever you go!!!
Hi Jeff,
We hate large Haven Type commercial sites, but have found what we think is the exception to the rule.
Searles holiday park in Hunstanton is very good. It is a large site , but the way the touring areas are laid out you dont notice. The promenade is close for bike riding.
Have been here numerous times and our kids love it. Its not cheap, but we think it is good value for money.
Other sites would be Carlyon Bay in Cornwall, or Whitehill Country park in Devon.

Have a look at Flower of May between filey and scarborough, great kids playground, indoor pool and loads of space for bike. Not very commercial and has all the facilities you would need
Why not have a look at Wood Farm in Dorset? It has an indoor swimming pool and the kids seemed happy on site. It's certainly not a Haven or a Sandy Balls, but it did us. Alternatively, Lincoln Farm, just outside Oxford, ot Bainland Park in Woodhall Spa are worth looking at.
Thank you for all your suggestions - there are a few that I like. Searles look good but very expensive and it looks like you can only for a week at a time and we only want 10 nights at the most.
Thanks to everyone for your help - any other suggestions would be appreciated

Have a look at Orchard Farm (here http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=3317 ) . It has a lovely big play area, and a big open grassed area,a small bar and pool, a fishing lake and even a miniature train! We've never stayed there because we live just around the corner, but we often take the kids down to feed the ducks, and it never seems to be rowdy or overcrowded, even at peak times.
I too can also recommend Brighouse Bay - Gerry recommended it to us and he was spot on. My children (10 and 12 at the time) loved it there - as did we. Especially the heated shower block in October
With children I find it doesn't really matter about facilities etc just that there is another child (children) around. They then go off with their new found friend(s) and make things for themselves to do.
Thanks for your help - the Cornwall meet looks fab but I have just started a new job and cannot book holidays until March at work which is a bummer as all the good sites are usually booked by then and I cannot be guaranteed that I would get my holidays so I am going to have to wait until March before i can make any definite decisions

My children love Stanwix Park at Silloth. Play park, swimming pool, bowling alley and much more. Evening entertainment is great for kids. Can end up spending a fortune though. But we still love it!
River Dart County Park near Dartmoor. Loads of play areas/zones with slides, play lake, indoor rock climbing, outdoor pool. You wont see your kids if you go here!
We had some great hols last year. Our favourite family sites are:
Plassey near Wrexham is nice has a good sized play area, with indoor pool, shop & craft centre. They only take 15 tents though so you need to book early but they put all the tents together and it makes for a lovely friendly atmosphere. 25 min drive to Chester
Dolbryn is a lovely small rustic site in Wales. Lovely play area plus goats & rabbits and lots of very friendly regular campers, owners are lovely too. Stones throw from local villages & beaches. There isn't a pool or anything but theres one nearby.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
