i'm looking for a site in wales to go with our 3 kids in the summer for 2 weeks (age 7,5 and 2). i was originally considering dan yr ogof, but the kids won't be able to ride their bikes around the site. I am also looking at pencelli castle. can anyone recommend anywhere else. The only facilities i need are clean showers and loos, and laundry facilities!
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Shell island for a tent, no caravans allowed and reached by a causeway, but beautiful sandy beaches, fishing, and loads of rockpools to explore at low tide, Its quite a spacious site so there should be plenty of room around the very quiet open site roads for them to ride. I havent been for a few years now since we stopped camping and bought the van, but they were planning to build a new shower block to replace the old ones, which were clean but a bit basic and oldfashioned.
Theres a small shop, cafe and bar on site too, the nearest town is Harlech
Edited to add that I have just had a look at their website and they did indeed build the new showerblock, including a laundry, and they allow camp fires on the beach and in some pitch areas as long as they are off the ground and you clean up after them. They also now accept Motorhomes/campervans and boats on trailers with insurance, but are not licenced for caravans and havent got around to installing EHU yet, but offer a leisure battery charging and freezer pack hire service from the reception. The site occupies the entire island so is very spacious as regarding pitch sizes, and they do not take bookings, its on a first come first served basis, but only in the very height of the season or on BH is there much chance of them being fully occupied the site is so large. Crossing the causeway is no problem and only during high spring tides and for about an hour each day at day high tide it is closed for crossings, and this sometimes is during the late night/daybreak hours so it not too disruptive and all part of the fun of a visit.

------------- Just love to be out amoungst Nature and Wildlife
Celebrating 37 years of Caravanning in 2019, Recently Considered Retiring, but Totally Addicted for Life!
Try Fforest Fields, very family friendly, beautiful site and very helpful owners, facilites were very good whilst we were there last summer. Despite the rain, our kids had a fantastic time, its the type of site where they make friends and play for hours in the little streams.
Try Wood Office Caravan Park in Cold Blow. Its 5 minutes up the road from Folly Farm and about the same time further on is Narberth town. Fab market town with loads of little shops and eateries.
Its about 20 minutes drive to all the beaches and although the site is basic and there's no pub in walking distance, the site itself is huge and flat with loads of room for the kids to ride bikes. All the vans are sited around huge fields so you can watch the kids play. Shower block is 2 years old (4 large free unisex showers) and they have a washer and a dryer in the static field. Reception has a shop with the basics and sweets for the kids. Small play area for the kids.
I was sited there for 4 years but eventually moved because the big downside is you only get 6amps (which the owners think is ample and for which they charged per night on top of the seasonal fee) and I got fed up with blowing the leccy every five minutes, even having only one appliance on at a time.
The nightly charges are a bit steep, if memory serves, but it's an immaculately kept site, the grass is mown to an inch of its life and its extremely safe for little kids, the tourers and tents are nowhere near the entrance to the site.
Thought I should add the site we're currently on! We were there for all of last season and are going back in March (can't wait). Gower Villa Touring Park (read the reviews on this website) in Clynderwen. On main road to Cardigan, just outside Narberth (again - we didn't move far!). Its a smaller site with not so much room to ride around as the other one, but its a wonderfully friendly site, the owners (2 brothers) are lovely and can't do enough for you. No shop on the site (just the required showers/laundry/washing up etc) but there's a spar and lovely, friendly pub a 10 minute walk away in the middle of the village.
The non-seasonal vans all get sited in the play field with a small climbing area for the kids so you can easily watch them. They put all-weather pitches in last year, which are proving popular. They have a lovely reception hut with magazines, books and a freezer for your use, and they also have PAYG wi-fi which comes in handy on rainy days (you can use the PC in Reception or enter the code into your own laptop).
They are firm animal lovers and will give dogs (and responsible owners) a good welcome. The toilet/showers have flowers, proper towels and personal bits and bobs that really make you feel at home. And to top it off, they have 16amps...
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
