Hubby has suggested IoW for our summer holiday this year. I've looked over the listings for the island and read some of the reviews so I think I know which site we're going to head to (Whitefield Forest).
Some sites though offer to book your ferry for you too, inclusive in the price. Is it worth doing this or is it cheaper to book the ferry separately? Any advice would be appreciated.

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Would go along with that, unless you can pay with Tesco vouchers, in which case it's free with Wightlink.
Just a small note of caution on that point, if you get holiday cancellation insurance through the campsite, your ferry won't be covered if you've paid with Tesco vouchers. Have to have Tesco holiday insurance for that.
Have just booked our Wightlink crossing for end of August (not bank holiday weekend), and there was only one sailing left each way You may have more choice through the campsite though.
Whitefield Forest would have been our site of choice, but we are camping with family at a different site, so I'll be interested to read your review (if you leave one).
Having said that, if I can get another cheap crossing, I hope to stay at Comforts Farm, as Tina recommended it and it looks great for the price.
We love the Island and hope to move there someday, but we usually camp in Cornwall

Hi I live on the IOW and the campsite is lovely nice clean and new! been last year, if you are camping I would advise a footprint ground sheet or tarp under your tent, found quiet a few sharp stones under my tent but lucky none went through! enjoy your trip and watch out for the red squirells !!!!!!!!! they are so cute!
lol, take a look at the ferry websites (wightlink and red funnel), cos you can get cheaper deals depending on what time of day you book!!! but you will have to do the maths and work out what the camsites are charging and what you can do it for seperately! (cant help you with that im afraid, i have never booked the ferry with the campsite lol)
and remember NOT to put any wood on your bbq once you have finished cooking if you are going to whitefield forest! it seems to be a pet hate of the owners and they do 'spot checks'!!!
if you go for an early/middle of the night ferry, be aware that there is not much open on the island after 5 o clock! there is a 24hr tesco in ryde, but that will be it!
hope you enjoy the island

Thank you for all the advice and comments. They're much appreciated!
I'll give Wightlink a phone call and see what they can do. It might be cheaper, but from what I can see, it won't be much! :D I'm really looking forward to it now.

Red Funnel have an offer for 5 nights at various parks including Whitefield Forest with return ferry for car +4 people from £105. Only problem is that they do not offer this in the summer. We went in October last year and it was great value.
Yes works out cheaper if you can book through C&CC, we went last year to Whitefield forest for 3 weeks in the school summer holidays , our ferry cost £115 travelling on a Tuesday lunchtime out and returning same time.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
