just a quicky on the clubs is 1 better than the other or both the same as i am thinking of joining atleast one of them
neil
Neil, the clubs offer basically the same sort of thing but if you do not have a caravan, motorhome or trailer tent/camper then you would need to join the C&CC. The CC do not accept tenters as members. Personally I think the CC sites are of a slightly better consistent standard - but this is only my experience and opinion - others may think differently. I also understand that the CC also has a slighty larger network of sites.
I'd agree with that, but would add that each of the clubs is strong in different geographical areas, so if you like touring the entire UK joining both clubs gives the best choice. Being a C&CC member also gives reduced fees at Forest Holiday sites. Then there are the CL/CSs....

We're members of the Camping & Caravanning Club and have just had a holiday on a lovely commercial site with them in the rally field. If we'd booked independently we'd have had to pay £132.40 but with the club we paid £56 for 4 nights. We had use of all the facilities, ablutions blocks, swimming pool, entertainment, EHU. So we had the chance to use a site which we wouldnt have tried because of the prices & more than made up our for membership fees.
We have a weekend booked in June & another 4 night break in August, both with full facilities but at least half the cost. Has to be worth it!!

Hi Homebird, sorry if this is a dumb question, but how do you book a commercial site through the C&CC Club? Thanks!

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!

The C&CC would have had a holiday rally at the site. This would either be on the main site durinf the low season, or in a rally field adjacent to the site during high season. Still able to use the facilities but pitched a little further away.
Ah right, thanks. I have been looking on the C&CC website, but can only find meets or temporary holiday sites under the "Out and About" section - am I in the right place? I did a search for holiday rally but it came up with foreign ones. Thanks again!
Yes it was a THS with the C&CC.I dont think they call them rallies but as you say THS or meets. You are looking in the right place. The best way to use it is to decide what dates you want to holiday & the area & then search for whatever is available. As we need to go during school holidays we've been able to find something to suit us. We prefer sites with some facilities as opposed to just a field with a tap.
We were in the rally field with the club but did have access to all the facilities. Sometimes this isnt the case but if you need them, when searching, type in showers or toilets into the keywords search.
Alternatively, look in the club magazine, it might be easier

Cheers Homebird. I haven't get my June copy yet - might have to give them a ring and chase it up! By the way, how do I get promoted from a "standard" ukcampsite member?!!

i dont see apoint in joining the clubs as when you have a family the prices is not cheaper than alot of comercial site, and for the insurance and breakdown you can get them just as cheap if you shop around.
The advantage of the clubs breakdown service is that it works and works well whatever the the problem, as far as I know they are the only ones which will deliver you to your destination and then collect you and take you home at the end of your holiday, and they are the only ones which will recover your caravan if something happens to it when it is not connected to your car. Having read reports of problems with claiming and payouts on some insurances, and then read the reports on the service that the CC insurance gives when something happens I will stick with my CC insurance thank you very much.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
SWMBO and I joined both clubs when we started caravanning and have remained members ever since.
I was insured with one of the clubs for caravan/contents and european breakdown and recovery. The cover was extremely comprehensive. When I came to renew I checked the levels of cover with the other club and for the exact same level of cover the difference in renewal price between the clubs was £120. Needless to say I'm not insured with the other club.
It'll be interesting to see how they compare next time round.
We've used the CC for booking ferries for a european trip and the service and pricing were excellent.
The magazines alone are worth the respective membership fees. They contain a variety of reviews of sites equipment, caravans, tow cars etc and adverts, letters from members and other intersting content.
I've been to far more C&CC sites than CC ones which may be why the only bad experience we had with a site warden was with a C&CC one who had the negotiating skills of Atilla the Hun! Needless to say we won't use that site again. On the whole though we have found wardens of both sites to be helpful, courteous, knowlegeable and interesting to talk to.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
