 We are thinking of having a week in Kent in August and would appreciate some help. We are looking for a site with a swimming pool and a bar , not a Haven type site, preferably within walking distance of a town, We have a tourer.

Hi, I'd agree with TKMAXX, Two Chimneys one of the best sites in Kent, which has a pool and club house. In great position for getting to most places in Kent including the beaches. Have been here about 4 times now and never disappointed, even in busier times.

Define 'nearest town'. There is a village close by but depends on what walking distance is to you.

Somewhere with a few pubs and shops, more town than village. About a 20 minute walk is ok.

Ah ok, in Birchington, there are a few pubs (cant think of the names), shops, fish and chip shop, indian take away, thai takeaway etc etc.

Birchington has some pubs but not really a night life. Bit of a walk too along lanes with no paths.

If you headed in the other direction you'd find Ramsgate and Broadstairs. Probably about an hours walk going via the farmers fields (Public Footpaths)

You would also come across Westwood Cross which has everything!

Acol and Minster probably about 30 minutes away. Acol has a pub, Minster has a couple of pubs and some shops and take aways.

Just been looking at Seaview holiday park , which is 3 miles from Whitstable and the same distance from Herne bay.

Strongly suggest Thriftwood, very nice clean site, helpful owners, heated outdoor pool, basic but friendly bar, and near places like Canterbury that are well worth a visit.

Also very near, but not too near Brands hatch.

Could also try Marlie Farm. Has a club and small indoor pool. Zoom in on the map on the search facility on here and you'll get a good idea of location regarding New Romney..Mick
