hi, new to the site, only been camping once before just me and my fella but just got new tent and now there is a few of us hoping to go in a few weeks, just wondering if anyone can give the names of some cheap and cheerfull camp sites in the north of england (we are from gtr manchester) and don't want to go too far

Have you looked at the National Trust campsites in the Lake District?  We have used the ones at Low Wray and Langdale......before we went soft and bought a caravan.

We've just returned from The Pheasant Inn, in Leyburn. I've just left a review, check it out. 1 mile from leyburn with 3 or 4 very nice pubs that do food. The campsite is at the back of the pub, very small and only £8 per pitch (small tents - £10 bigger tents).

Fooden Farm at Bolton By Bowland is a Caravan Club 5 van site but I don't know if they accept tents as well.   I think they charged about £4/5 a night.  We stayed there recently on a C&CC Temp Hol Site. Lovely walking.

Going to Birchbank in 2 weeks at Ulverston, small site of 20 pitches, costing us £12.50 a night (3 ppl and EHU). It is in the middle of nowhere though
