We are looking to book a site in the south west of england for a tourer, two kids 7 and 10 and also a dog close to a beach, any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried this. click on the area you wish to visit, use the refine list on the left of the page, how many miles 5, 10 etc at the bottom then update. It shows you all the sites in the area.
Stowford Meadows Ilfracombe - has indoor pool, play area, woodland walks and all close to beaches of North Devon.
River Dart Country Park - Ashburton, ideal for kids - so many activities. This site is not on a beach but is woodland/riverside site close to Dartmoor and within easy access of South Devon coast.

I can highly recommend the caravan site in Looe, Cornwall. Just opened after a refurb, it was it's own dog field, 5 mins drive into Looe village and has lots of beaches nearby which are dog-friendly. For the kids swimming pool, crazy golf and tennis courts. You can visit Newquay for a day's surfing approx 45 mins drive away. Love it
If you don't find what you want on using the ukcampsite search try the website www.camponwater.com which lists all sites that are literally right on the beach.
I believe from memory there is a section on the south west, but not sure.
