Staying here for a week starting 8th August. Can anybody comment on how windy this site or the general area gets?

Does anybody know if there are any walks (i.e. pub runs) from the site into town avoiding the main road, as walking the road looks naff?

As it's in the valley may not be so bad for wind but probably dependant on which direction it's blowing. As for walks you won't have much choice unless you drive into Llanrwst or Betws. There is a pub close to the dog leg corner A470/A5 but apart from that think the only route to betws is along teh road until you do get a shortcut, the river in between the site and Betws is the problem so limits where you can cross. Llanrwst may be easier to get too as you are on right side of river but it's certainly not as picturesque or as nice a walk from my experience round there. (I've never camped there but we have family near Pentrefoelas just back along the A5 so drive into Betws for diesel a lot so my view is mostly from driving perspective)

(Does the name not translate as "Farm Farm" aswell? Completely irrelevant)

Just ran it through a translator, and yep it is in there:

Farm = amaetha, amaethu, amaethwch, ffarmia, ffarmio, ffarmiwch, ffermia, ffermio, ffermiwch, amaethdy, dyddyn, ffarm, fferm, ffermdy, hafod, hamaethdy, tyddyn

So it must be Farm Farm.

Thanks for the info on the area,

The site is pretty flat and (for the area) low lying so won't suffer as much as some sites in the area. I recall more of an issue with road noise when we stayed last year. The area itself can suffer from wind and weather swirling in off the Irish Sea and round the mountain ranges; but it can also be good - dependent on how the British Summer performs!

If you were going to walk to Betws the grass verge was the only way I was aware of. This is quite a wide verge but not the best walk, especially as traffic does hurtle along the road. However you can cut through, as mentioned earlier, part way down. The route towards Llanrwst is better but the town is not really a tourist destination, although the chip shop just off the main square is certainly worth a visit.

The site can get windy. I assume that the wind funnels up the valley, as the site is quite sheltered really.

There is a bus stop right by the site - so you could avoid walking into town. The bus times are displayed in the wash room.

Road noise is indeed an issue - I would take ear plugs with you.

For a "walking" base - it is in an ideal location. Hundreds of walks to choose from, of all grades.

Thanks for all the response. I'll probably be taking our steel poled tent, as it needs some use this year, so wind is less of an issue with that.

Pity about the walk into town, but never mind. I have looked at the OS map and aerial photographs and spotted the path that goes to the bridge over the river.

I did question whether the road would be noisy before booking, but have stayed at a site in Wales by the A470 further south before and I didn't find it that busy at night - fingers crossed.

The bus is a good call thanks.

The A470 is mainly a quiet road - problem is that as you come out of BC - you have a half mile stretch of straight road ..... just behind the hedge of the site ...

All bikes and cars open their throttles! Loads of noise.

Between 7.30am and 9am on week days. This is a busy road - folks getting to work etc.

We will never go there again.
